I read it was coming to "Vista." Will the game run on XP?

Looked nice running at double the framerate but the boss battle environment was very sparse and Cliffy didn't do a good job of hiding the fact he had infinite health.

I don't understand the strategy here.

Especially now that the 360 has deviated from some of the key points that made consoles appealing over a PC to me and others..like..

1. Standard design that provides the same experience for everyone. Now gone.
2. Stability of the platform resulting from 1. Now gone.

Let me explain a bit - if I bought a 360 even a few months ago I would need to re-buy an Elite to get the latest capabilities. Might as well invest in the PC instead ..unless there are big games only available on the 360..except they are coming to the PC as well..and the PC versions are likely to exceed the 360.

So in essence your now paying for timed exclusives, with lower quality games (than a PC) without the benefits of a stable console design.

Just don't get how this approach sells 360's myself...it seems to discourage it in my mind.

This is the way it's been, on an increasing basis. You have a lot of back and forth between the PC and the 360 and vice versa.

If the PC gamers like me get lucky...the 360 games get reworked, expanded, and buffed up before coming over to the PC.

This is good news for me!

Remeber: Even a good DIY person would have to spend at least $1000-$1500 for a decent gameworthy PC and that's before we even talk about a monitor.

So that's where the consoles still come in. If MS hadn't bungled the hardware on the 360 so badly with this 33 percent ghastly failure rate, then I this would be moot for the most part.

Well now I can add two more reasons why the 360 strategy makes even less sense.

1. Get more content with PC versions so why bother with the 360.
2. Pissing off your 360 customers who feel shafted now.

Like I said I don't understand the strategy here. It's bizarre. Unless..

Is the 360 intentionally setting people up for double-dipping with Windows games? Release the cut down versions early on the 360 and the full versions later on Windows. It's beginning to look that way.

It could be, but again, I must reiterate the point about the cost of PC hardware, even if you DIY.

And then you can get titles like Shadowrun, which are equally mediocre on both platforms.

So there's no guarantees either way.

Are you sure it was infinite health? Your health dose recharge in the game.

Yeah I was thinking more about people that already have reasonable PC's just popping in a newer video card instead.

Even with Shadowrun it could be a case of hit or miss or picking their battles because of timing issues etc..early days and all that..

I reckon Gears of War 2 and Halo 3 will eventually come out for PC since the first and second (in Halo's case) entries of those series did.

This is less reason for PC gamers such as myself to consider getting a 360 now.

I think it's pretty well known that you hate the 360 and MS. I don't. I like to say these are good points, but they aren't. For your first point, there are people like me that are huge videogame fans. I have 350+ games, but I am not, nor will I ever be a PC gamer. I have a ton of friends that are the same way, so even if they released a PC version with 20 extra levels, I wouldn't buy it. Second, I don't feel shafted for it going to the PC or for having extra content, that's just silly. I'm not one of those people that get upset if a PS3 exclusive game is going to the 360 or vice versa because I own both. And I also don't feel shafted because the PC version will have extra content. That is almost ALWAYS the case when a game that has been out previously on a system gets re-released on a new system, any system. It makes sense. They don't just want to release the exact same version, and they have more time to add content. Nope, not shafted at all. In fact, all I have been doing this last week is play Gears of War system link with my roommate and it kicks so much ass!

if you think those PC features aren't going to be on the 360 version.......

They'll be released as downloadable content packs

HDMI is not a "new capability". Everyone still has the same experience. It's not like they swapped in a new CPU/GPU or put in more RAM.

And they have to put something extra in the PC version when they're releasing it essentially a year later, it's also an effort to get the hardcores to buy the game AGAIN. Right after Xmas all the new stuff will show up on Live and in the "Platinum collection" version. They do the same thing with Call of Duty and the "game of the year" thing.

I never said it was for everybody so don't paint me as hating a console or anybody at MS... because you disagree with what i said. Speaking up doesn't make me hate anybody .. let alone a console. I got alot of that when I was telling people MS was lying to them about the value of HDMI as they were trying to make decisions on which way to go. And even more so when I was sounding the alarm bells there was a massive failure rate long before most suspected - never mind recent announcements. Maybe I should shut-up? No thanks - deleting and closing threads on AVS, Forza forums to squash valid concerns and supress information is the wrong way to do business with me I'm afraid. If that's hate to you well then that's your problem not mine.

For example - what if you had been trying to make a decision about which console to get since last November - who would you have rather had giving you advice. The information supplied by MS and the media that HASN'T done it's job or me .

I was trying to understand why I would want a 360 (or a PC for that matter - it goes both ways to a certain degree) if the console no longer has exclusives and the PC version is going to be later but have more content in the end. Impatience is about all I can think of? I'm generally patient so waiting on something isn't that big of a deal. Hence the shafted.

It's pretty simple and valid analysis about where it is leading and what the costs are in between. In fact pretty reasonable, didn't really expect anyone to take it so personally actually.

I didn't take it personally, nor do I want you to shutup. I can tell you are very intelligent from reading your posts, and you have interesting things to say. It's just that over the months I have heard you slam the 360 on many occasions, and while that doesn't bother, I just like to defend it because I think it's a great console, and I think I just like to debate with fanboys of ANY system since I love them all (except maybe for the wii). I defend the PS3 on pro 360 forums, and to be honest, I think the PS3 will end up being a better console for games once they start to be released more. It is technically superior to the 360, but as it stands now, I like the 360 better for gaming becasue of it's library (plus I like achievements, and being able to play music from my iPod while playing any game is just cool). Just trying to bring balance to the force. I didn't mean to be offensive.

Free or should people just wait and get it on the PC? Thats kind of my point anyway - what's the difference anymore..it's becoming the same thing? So why have two if the console side no longer offers the benefits of what consoles have always offered in the past. Not even a bad thing just an observation more than anything. I think maybe there has been a bit of pentup energy people have been holding back about me..

Unfortunately not. Upscaling to 1080 for some games will only be possible over your HDMI connection.

From Bungies site for Halo 3 http://www.bungie.net/News/content.a...news&cid=12392

"1080p at 60 fps is awesome for fighting games and barely a stretch for Live Arcade games. But if you want epic battles, dozens of bad guys, huge vistas and colossal structures, with advanced AI, HDR lighting and explosive physics, then you’re not getting those at 1080p at 60fps. Actually, that’s not entirely accurate – Halo 3 will display at 1080p through the Xbox Elite with its scaler and HDMI port, but not natively.

IOW not for Premium or Core users. Maybe they changed that since that was posted. But there will be differences. Just so people are aware.

I'll make another prediction. MS will require a HDD at some point - so I'd be aware of that possibility if your thinking of purchasing a Core.

That was my point originally - double-dipping was part of the motivation. Not sure why everyone got so upset about saying it out loud. Seems like it would be in their interest but not necessarily the majority of users.

Well I can see the confusion. But really it's been more about what MS has been doing and telling people than the console itself. It's not the consoles fault per se that MS rushed it to market etc, denied reliability problems for so long etc., combined with FUD and misinformation around Blu-ray.

Neither did I. Sometimes I know it seems like bashing but often new people are involved or lurkers are watching..and as misinformation etc gets repeated etc...rinse and wash.

I know that Epic wants to do them all for free. They've said so in the past.

It'll work with VGA as well, and it doesn't matter cause it's still a 720p game being upscaled, which your 1080p TV would do so for you anyway. That's all they're talking about. As long as you didn't buy a Westinghouse or some other piece of crap you'll be find, and maybe even then.

No, they'll never require the HD, and if you want to buy a HD, you can get one for the same price diff between the core and the premium. Again, there will be no difference in the actual endgame experience.
