I held out on Harry and the Hendersons thinking this year it would mark its 30th anniversary, but I got it for a few dollars so I caved in and bought it.
Others that I still wont buy yet are: Predator (1987) I love this movie and I want to see it in HD greatness. Tremors (1989) I know some day they will remaster it. Versus (2000) It's out of print. I would have bought it when it was introduced, but right now the prices are insane. I'll wait for a cheaper one to come around The Untouchables (1987) Seems to be a pattern, but maybe there's a 30th anniversary coming this year. The Crow (1994) As long as they don't add the deleted footage back this movie never feels complete to me. The Usual Suspects (1995) I have the 2 disc DVD release and it seems the Blu-ray is really barebones, not even the commentaries are ported over. I don't want to create a 3-disc version. Gimme all or get nothing. |

Silence of the Lambs - Current disc is average, and there's a new 4K mastered release comimg out from a label in the near future.
Floating Weeds (UK) - Colors are too washed out, film deserves better Le Samourai (FR) - Criterion will save us from the terrible French release(s) |

I'll be perfectly happy if the 2008 Blu-ray of Predator is the definitive edition of the film as far as picture quality goes. It would be nice to see more extras, but I like the grainy filmic look of the film on that first Blu-ray edition.
I've never held off on buying favorite movies on Blu-ray in hopes of a better edition in the future, but I've been lucky to buy certain titles for cheap five-dollar prices so that I won't be out too much cash if they are restored in the future....Bullit, Tremors, etc. |

life's too short to do that....
a good example is KILL BILL 1 and 2..... when those came out on blu ray it was rumored that a definitive extended cut would be released down the road.... and I remember hesitating on buying them..... well, here it is almost a decade later and I'd still be waiting if I had passed on them.... |

I can't say I do the waiting thing much, especially when talking about older, cheap releases. Common sense tells me to wait on a Rogue One SE or UHD but I probably won't. I guess I'm more frivolous with my money than others, but I like owning the movie and who know how long it will take for another edition to come out. With physical media getting more niche and stuff going OOP you can get punished for waiting. |

I've never bought Unforgiven. It finally paid off with the recent announcement.
Ain't gonna buy The Aviator either, despite it being perhaps my favorite Scorsese. Not without a better audio track. Last edited by Cremildo; 03-27-2017 at 06:38 PM. |

I am very glad that I own a copy of the first Predator BD, but I can see why someone would hesitate to buy it now. It was all right when I picked it up in 2008, but standards are higher now, and it does have problems with compression. Predator could certainly look better, and I guess that it will before too long. The presence of the original 4.0 audio on the 2008 BD is a definite plus though.

I've held off on The Wolf of Wall Street (for a proper special edition with hopefully a longer cut), Tombstone (for a director's cut) and the Kill Bills (for The Whole Bloody Affair) but cracked and bought them due to getting tired of waiting. Other than those I never play the waiting game.
Actually I'm glad I ended up buying the Kill Bills because it made me realize that I prefer them as 2 separate films due to how different they both are (even though it annoys the hell out of me that the biggest battle is in black and white due to the damn MPAA) and that part 2 is already 30 minutes too long. There's scenes in that film that really aren't even necessary and could've easily been cut without missing out on anything. Edit: I did trade my copy of The Usual Suspects. I'm pretty sure a better release will come out. Last edited by MassiveMovieBuff; 03-27-2017 at 06:31 PM. |

There's nothing I won't buy if I suspect a better edition down the road, but I'll wait until the available subpar disc is dirt cheap. Several of the ones people have listed, like Silence of the Lambs and Predator, I do own. I just got them for next to nothing. Same for special features; if I really love the movie, I'll buy it, but I'll just wait til it's cheap. |

The only time I wait on a film is when the cost to own the disc is greater then the perceived value I feel I will obtain from it. In those cases I continue to hunt and wait for a better price. One of my ongoing examples of this has been "Masters of the Universe". To me, that film is worth $7.99. I'd happily pay $9.99, but prices have always had it around $14.99. Since it's a film I'm interested in, but not dying to own (I won't ever have the feeling that my collection is complete without it) I'm content on waiting. Typically this approach has worked for me quite well, however on occasion I miss a film due to it going oop or I have to jump on a slightly higher priced listing to ensure I can obtain the film before it disappears forever, but for the most part I usually find my films at the prices I feel they are worth.
