Default Sigh... HD DVD promotional group FUD

http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/st...4627245&EDATE=

Is it just me or are they getting more desperate, theres no way these numbers are correct, well at least by Nielson numbers. What are they going to say next, there is no such thing as blu ray?

How can they say Blu-Ray hardware and software is on the decline. Niether format is on the decline.

They don't really explain what they are talking about or expand on anything.

So sad.

Oh not to worry.

The HD-DUD backers were let out again today to chase parked cars.

It will clear up when the swelling goes down.

sometimes these companies will angle anything in their favor...

like how they exclude PS3 sales in regards to blu-ray players....

BUT DON'T THEY IN FACT PLAY BLU-RAY MOVIES?...this kind of logic confuses me....but I am not the one who is confused ahah..

the HD DVD people say they are blowing Blu-ray away in unit sales (excluding PS3) while the BD group judges the war by movie sales....

this is like the direct tv commercial that says "Direct TV HD will be able to hold up to 200 HD channels".....but don't the stations have to be broadcasting in HD first?...

or "Direct TV HD picture quality outperforms cable 4:1"....what the blank does this mean?....

It all depends on what the include/exclude at the moment.

"overall Blu-ray hardware sales saw a 27 percent decline from Q1 to Q2"

Naturally, that includes the mythical PS/3, which only gets included when it is convenient.

"dedicated HD DVD CE players experienced an astounding 183 percent quarterly increase."

but overall hardware only 37 percent? That would indicate:

(1) Abysmal sales of CE players in Q1
(2) Still lousy CE player sales if such a huge increase along with rather poor sales of other stuff is still only 37%

Lies.
Damn lies.
Statistics.

There are currently more than 180,000 dedicated HD DVD CE players in the market.
Which market?

North America, where it was 150K last month. Or worldwide, indicating insignificant sales since last month?

With titles like "300" coming later this month from Warner Home Video
and "Heroes: Season 1" to be released in August from Universal Studios Home
Entertainment, HD DVD owners will have close to 1,000 titles worldwide to
choose from by the holidays.

okay, i just checked and according to dvd empire there are 312 currently available titles... a far cry from 1,000 titles (unless of course there are 700+ titles overseas we are unaware of)... and even still, HD-DVD has been around for over a year and they've only gotten to 300 or so titles... half a year to go, i would assume it would double to what, 600? FUD

With the software sales numbers, I bet it is just like the numbers over avs, where they took the worst week of blu ray and best week of hd dvd, and said look there, we are catching up, lol.

edit: like week of June 19th

This is probably their response to Disney and Panny's Blu-ray mall blitz that was just in USA Today. They don't have the backing to effectively counter that. MS is going to be spending too much money fixing 360s.

Also, if HD DVD software sales are increasing while BD software sales are decreasing, then why did the latest Nielson numbers show that the SI ratio increased from 59/41 to 60/40 in favor of BD? That would mean that even if the actual numbers just went from 59.4/40.6 to 59.6/40.4, BD is still widening the gap, albeit not too fast, but still, it's outpacing.

If that is true about software sales, and of course what I just said above is true (about the SI ratio), then that means that even when 20% more HD DVDs are bought and 5% less BDs were bought, that 20% increase isn't even enough to reverse the trend we've seen all year!

Who cares any more? We all know the truth, and 300 will just buttress what we know.

Ah, so the timing of the Uni flood now makes sense. They were expecting to make a big splashy announcement about how HD DVD had roared back.

The Uni stuff stalled, and they are left with this patchwork of misleading nonsense.

I can't wait until Bill Hunt at the Bits has a chance to ask them about this, then give us his two cents on it.

Wasn't there supposed to be a $150 million marketing campaign LAST year?
