Default Amazon's HD DVD promotional emails and flyers...

I pre-order F4:ROTSS on Blu-Ray from Amazon, all the items in my wish list are Blu-Ray, all I search for on Amazon is Blu-Ray related items, and this is what I get for my trouble?? The following appeared in my email inbox an hour or so ago.

Dear Amazon.com Customer,

As someone who has shopped for high-definition electronics, you might be interested in learning more about HD DVD, a new way to watch movies with spectacular picture and sound. Expanded special features on HD DVDs such as "300" include games, the ability to assemble a montage of your favorite scenes, and picture-in-picture technology that allows you to view bonus features while you watch the film.

Learn more about HD DVD at Amazon.com.

Coming Soon to HD DVD

"Evan Almighty," Oct. 9

"Transformers," Oct. 16

"Shrek the Third," Nov. 13

"Blade Runner," Dec. 18

We hope you found this message to be useful. However, if you'd rather not receive future e-mails of this sort from Amazon.com, please visit the opt-out link here:

Do you think I should opt out? (Heh, heh)

(There were pictures but I couldn't get them to load...anyway, you get the idea)

I thought they were more intuitive than this...

Ohhh...Nooooo...the power of suggestion is luring me away from Blu-Ray...I must buy HD-DVD...I must buy HD-DVD...

Wonder what they would do if we all e-mailed them back saying that if they send another advertisment for HD DVD we will stop buying from them all together. I know I wouldn't stop because they are the least expensive, but it might make them think.

I wonder how many people got that message, HD and non-HD users alike. And are they going to give Blu-Ray equal time?

Amazon is not really a good indicator of sales. We all know that from all the past discussions. Just look at the movies that end up in the top ten of the Nielson Rankings that beat out movies that were in Amazon's top 100 But never hit Amazon's top 100. Heros was their top seller for Hi Def media when it came out, but it was still beat out by 300 which was ranked much higher. More people still buy at brick and mortar stores.

And they don't want you to stop buying anything. That's how they make their money. They just want you to start buying HD DVD too so they can make even more money.

It's their sh!t recommendation system. That thing has ALWAYS been WAY messed up. You can order a Harry Potter DVD and get recommended an erotic cook book.

They must have someone working there overtime. The holiday season is starting to gear up so it's now or never for HD-DVD.

If they do not keep an influx of funds going then things like that e-mail, the HD 101 webpage, the insert for HD-DVD sent in every package will be gone and with it the ten's of millions of dollars spent.

Amazon has changed and the deals are not the best any more. I just joined Costco. Much cheaper prices there than at amazon.

Here is my latest purchase:
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...rodid=11162680
$300 at costco vs. $330 at Amazon. 20 more dollars in savings and I will have my costco membership fee already paid off. I think I'll go fill up my gas tank that might do it.

i thinks its totally non bias, this is done by computer as you searched in that category and they are trying to promote those high end movies, especially Transformers. They did the same thing a while back when you search a hddvd player and they recommended a blu-ray to go along with it. I think everything has a sales category and they have linked blu-ray and hddvd in that category

For one outside of Blade Runner those movies range from suck to decent, so I won't be going anywhere but yeah while Amazon seperates Blu and HD on line they will alert you to HD-DVD's as both are considered high Def. movies even if you only buy Blu-ray. They do this to HD-DVD customers as well, imagine how much that must piss them off

Amazon wants all High Def movie buyers to go neutral.

It's more money for them!

Costco is a warehouse discounter. They have very few if any things dealing with the HD war. I do use Amazon for purchasing other things but no longer. They have lost out on those sales. I think it's a stupid move on there part.

That email was not a mistake. I have not recieved it, I may have opted out. I said this before but check out the biasness found Amazon's HD 101 page. Will you ever trust anything they say about a product or the reviews given? I won't.

The funniest thing is when you clicked one of the FAQ's and it gave a link saying something like "Click here to go back to the HD DVD page". They now spawn a second window. They also refer to HD-DVD players are "HD players".

F amazon.com. They can keep their prices(that aren't that great outside of buy 2 get 1 sales). I have always felt that Best Buy, Circuit City, and Wal-mart are the best places to buy, because the more we buy there....the more they stock, the buying power they see, exclusive they go.

I don't think that this has anything to do with Amazon politics in the HD wars. Amazon uses a strange, yet affective, marketing strategy in selling products by recommending products that could potentially be useful to a buyer based on purchase records that simply don't sell as well. For example pots sell really well on amazon, pans don't; if a user buys pots amazon will send an email saying, hey pans would go really well with those pots in order to move the pans which aren't selling. its exactly the same with HDM in amazons eyes, one hdm disc blu-ray sells very well and another one, hd dvd, doesn't so lets try to push hd dvd on people who buy blu-ray, because we know they like hdm, amazons problem is most products aren't in such a war with each other, and they aren't going to redo their entire system to accomedate a very low selling item from their entire catalog of stuff to buy just b/c one product is in a war. don't think amazon is playing politics, basically its them admitting hd dvd doesn't sell well
