Default Per CNET: HD DVD Promotional Group's response to today

"Update, 4 PM PT: The HD DVD Promotional Group responded with a statement that's strikingly similar to the one issued earlier in the day: "We have long held the belief that HD DVD is the best format for consumers based on quality and value, and with more than 1 million HD DVD players on the market, it's unfortunate to see Netflix make the decision to only stock Blu-ray titles going forward. While the Best Buy announcement says they will recommend Blu-ray, at least they will continue to carry HD DVD and offer consumers a choice at retail."

We need to send HD-DVD a white flag to wave. It seems they have misplaced theirs...

Man Toshiba has to have the worst PR department in history. Their fans can spin better than this.

HD DVD group reaction to Universal dropping HD DVD (future sight here)

We have long held the belief that HD DVD is the best format for consumers based on quality and value, and with more than 1 million HD DVD players on the market, it's unfortunate to see Universal make the decision to only release Blu-ray titles going forward.

You see. It's always the same press release over and over...

Their response has been overwhelmingly underwhelming.

It should be a good few days and weeks for Blu after these two announcements. It's gonna be painful to be Red.

After reading things like this, I actually feel bad for HD-DVD related companies. But at the same time they know it is inevitable and could save themselves a lot of grief, money and embarrasment by just putting their wasted $ into the Blu media and or players now. They have to be either blind or just too dang stubborn. They are going to end up supporting Blu in the end, so why waste all this money on a clearly futile battle? They had a fighting chance in the beginning, but with all this support of Blu it has to be crystal to them what the outcome is going to be.

Unless they have a serious trump card to play at the end of this and are just letting these other companies join Blu exclusivity to teach them a lesson by pulling the carpet out from everyone in the end.

Hey they'll probably say the same thing when Uni and Paramount go Blu!

That will definetly be the funniest.

lol, so true. I think their earlier relase for the Netflix announcement was identical and the bot that spat out the response to the BB announcement simply added the BB part to the same release. Pathetic.

Damn, that's one serious trump card that they're holding on to.

Although highly unlikely, I still like to consider all the possibilities in any given situation.

If they want to save face the smart thing to do would be to announce a dual format and a blu ray player.

But of course , only a small portion of their actions have been smart so far.

TS doesn't hold big cards, they play em.

That's always been their strategies.

If a company could be a premature ejaculator.....sure it would be them.

Remember the $99 sale?

It would have to be the trump card of all trump cards. Something like $50 or cheaper players and Uni & Paramount to stop making DVDs and only make combo discs and make the MSRP the same as regulard DVDS.

Even something that drastic would probably be too little too late at this point.

Surrender Toshiba. It's over and has been for a while now.
