Default Question about home theatre and TrueHD

Hey all, I just recently got into this High Definition phase. I just bought a 46" Sony Bravia HDTV and a Sony BDP-S350. I am now looking to purchase a home theatre system. I wanted to know that if I purchased one of those home theatre in a box packages with HDMI, would I be getting TrueHD sound? or just the regular surround sound? My Blu-ray player decodes TrueHD right out of the box and was just curious as to whether or not I would be getting TrueHD from a regular home theatre package or not. I'm not looking to spend too much money, I'm looking to buy a home theatre probably after Christmas.

Most will tell you to avoid HTIB (home theare in a box) packages, and I strongly enforce that opinion. They don't have much of a price tage on them, but you certainly get what you pay for... decent (not great) receiver and absolute garbage speakers.

Now, to answer your question directly without prejudice, it depends on the system that you choose. You will want to make sure that the HDMI port is NOT passthrough. You will also want to make sure that the unit can handle bitsreamed audio over HDMI. And, lastly, you want to make sure that the receiver can decode all three audio codecs (DTS-HD, Uncompressed PCM, TrueHD). So, what you seek is possible... just be careful.

Congrats on your purchase, it looks like you are on a great start. I also agree with Petra_kalbrain, everyone usually starts out with a HTIB system....but pretty soon you will get this sickness called "upgraditis" . You will find that your HTIB speakers will not have enough High's/Low's and midrange sound. But if HTIB is all that you are looking for there is nothing really wrong with that. You can always put it in a different room if you "outgrow" your HTIB system. You will get more feed back if you post your budget....
