Default Watching blu-ray movies on a playstation 3

I was wondering how watching blu-ray movies on a playstation 3 is? More importantly, how many movies do work on the console? Is it just a good as having an actual blu-ray player?

PS3 is a blu-ray player, you will not notice a difference in your movie experience.

The PS3 is an excellent BD player...In fact, my main BD player is still a PS3.

I know that the playstation 3 is a blu-ray player. Is there any blu-ray movie that doesn't work in the playstation 3?

Can the playstation 3 read double sided discs? Like if one side of the disc is for the movie and the other side has special features and you have to flip the disc over to access the other side?

You run a better chance of finding a blu-ray stand alone player with particular movie issues then you will with the PS3. Heck I would venture to say you run a better chance of getting struck by a car tomorrow (while take a shower) than having a widespread movie issue with the PS3 based on the PS3's track record.

PS3 (and all blu-ray players) have to flip the discs yourself (unless I missed something recently)

i've always heard of people having certain playback issues with standalone players, but i've never heard of anyone having this problem with a ps3. i've never had this problem, and i've played about 80 different movies through my ps3

trust me, when you hear that ps3 is the best blu ray player on the market, it's true

The PS3 is actually considered by many people to be the best Blu-ray player out there for the standard movie watcher.

Sure there are those $2000 BD players for the high-end enthusiasts, but the PS3 gives you the most for your money. Sony did an excellent job.

Same here. Infact, many vendors at CES this past Jan. used the PS3 to display new blu-ray capabilities due to its versatility. It also has great PQ and decodes all the latest HD audio codecs. It's a pretty good bang for your buck.

If you're talking about regular DVDs (since there are no double-sided BDs), then yes, the PS3 reads them fine.

PS3 is the best Blu Ray player on the market. I have no desire ever to replace it with a standalone player, and eventually when I put one in my bedroom it will be another PS3. Never had a single problem with a single disc.

PS3 is flawless. ZERO problems with Blu ray playback. Quiet, fast loading times, you can't go wrong with this machine.

There are no two sided BD's. The 50GB are dual layer, but all on one side of the disc. All the points by the members here about the PS3 are right on. I have played over 200 BD's in my PS3 in the last year and no problems. The PS3 is the most sold BD player out there and it is so much more. Games, downloadable content(rental and purchase movies, themes, wallpaper, music, PS3 and PSP demos, etc.) The best all around entertainment device.

When you think about it, the PlayStation 3 is the best Blu-ray player because it's the only one that can play all Blu-ray disks - because PS3 games are Blu-ray too.

Keep in mind though that standalones aren't entirely obselete - they are smaller and sleek, for one, and I hear that most make less noise/are less hot than the PS3. Also, the price gap between PS3 and standalones seems to be quite larger now.

Default Hasn't failed me yet

I've put over 100 Blu Rays through my PS3 and I have yet to have one not play. I agree with those who say that it is the best player for its price, one of the advantages it has over the other models is it has built in Wi-Fi to download the updates to avoid the Blu playback issues that plague other players

Never had a problem with blu-ray playback on my Panny or PS3

If you are a gamer, I would get the PS3, if not I would get a Panny.
