Question Any Bypass for this Onkyo HT-S5100 7.1 Channel Home Entertainment System

My dad bought this thinking he would get 7.1 but after reading reviews the audio codecs that we can play seem pretty limited as compared to unlimited.

is there any bypass to this to get 7.1 and lossless codecs and such?

I'm going to guess that you thought you'd get 7.1 all the time, but are finding the majority of audio is 5.1 and that your system won't matrix (fake) the signal out to 7.1...?
Are you useing a bluray player?

capable of bistream audio output?

Try Nightmare before Christmas. It has Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio and sounds great.

thank you for the reccomendation but

my question is what limits will my dad face if he uses this setup?

i read that some codecs wont be able to transfer through because of the optical and coxial cables.

i am an audio noob..lol

Oh hes running optical? Ya hes going to have to run HDMI to be able carry the signal, optical wont do lossless.

Using optical or digital coax you will not be able to pass the lossless codecs like TrueHD. WHy you're using those i'm not understanding when you have an bluray player and a receiver with HDMI inputs...?

His system can only receive HD surround sound with 7.1 analog outputs from a Blu-ray player that does the processing internally.

He will be missing out on all HD codecs, save 2 channel Uncompressed PCM.
