I cried a lot during Beasts of the Southern Wild, and kept crying for almost an hour after it was over. It was just so beautiful and moving. I'm even afraid to watch it again because it will obviously not have the same impact.

Life is Beautiful always makes me weep copiously in the end.

Thankfully, I watched both at home. It would be embarrassing to cry so much in public.

I've still never cried in a movie. Came close a few times, felt sad/happy/whatever a bunch of times, but never actually cried.

Edit. Some I forgot.

Bridge to Terabithia destroyed me in the home stretch. I was exhausted afterwards. And I have had no reason so far to revisit because of it.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

E.T. of course still moves me to tears of both sadness and joy at all the right moments.

A Monster Calls hit me hard.

Star Trek That opening with George Kirk... Yeah. Abrams and co pulled out all the stops and pulled no punches. And damn Michael Giacchino's genius music for tying it all together and making me weep.

Wolf Children Oh yeah this one got me.

The Boy and the Beast Hosoda does it again.

Summer Wars Hosoda is a king at this and his films take you through the gamut.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey The best of the three and the ending does move me.

Jackson's King Kong

Saving Private Ryan Yeah, I forgot this one. Wow.

Hacksaw Ridge Darn it all Mel nailed this one.

The Last Samurai Forgot this one too.

Nights in Rodanthe Please don't judge. I love me some Diane Lane and she can make me weep.
[Show spoiler]The scene where she reads the letter from Paul after he has died is devastating. Lane's expressions and ultimate explosion of grief are just... wow.

Cast Away Need I say more?

Seabiscuit

I gave it a second viewing earlier in the year. It didn't hold up for me personally. So yeah, it might be best to let it be.

Snoopy Come Home absolutely destroyed me when I was little. All he wanted to do was get in the hospital and she his friend but "No dogs allowed!"

A lot more recently, lol, Logan turned on the water works for me at the end. There's plenty more but those 2 stick out for me

On a cathartic level, these films move me to the brink of tears.
  • Braveheart
  • Dancer in the Dark
  • The Dark Knight
  • The Lion King
  • Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
  • Koyaanisqatsi
  • Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
  • The Passion of the Christ
  • Star Trek (2009, purely the opening scene)
  • T2: Judgment Day
  • Wall*E
These depress me to the brink of tears:
  • American History X
  • Children of Men
  • City of Life and Death
  • Grave of the Fireflies
  • Requiem for a Dream
  • Schindler's List

Saving Private Ryan: At the gravesite.
Schindler's List: When Oscar is realizing how many more he could have saved and did not.
Forrest Gump:
[Show spoiler]When Forrest learns he has a son and his first reaction is to ask is he smart?

Cider House Rules: there are a number of scenes but mostly when
[Show spoiler]Michael Caine commits suicide.

Last Samurai: "I will tell you how he lived."
To Kill a Mockingbird: The final scene when Scout is standing on the Radley porch and that voiceover....powerful moment.

Those above get me but perhaps the most impact for me was the end scene in Field of Dreams ("Wanna have a catch?") because I lost my father at a very young age and even before I had seen that film, I had often thought, if only I could go back and talk to him as I went through the various growing stages one has throughout their life.

I wanted to add that the real life accounts from the Band of Brothers also gets me. When I watch the WWII docs on American Heroes Channel and see 80+ year old men break down when they try to account their experiences in war is truly emotional.

One story that has never left me is this one where this veteran in his 80's is recounting, as he tears up, how when he returned stateside in New York, the first thing he did was to call home (which I believe was in Virginia) to tell his family that he had returned. His father answered the phone and upon hearing his son's voice immediately said, "I'll get your mother." He was so angry at his father because he thought that after all that had happened, his father didn't even want to talk to him; that is until his mother got on the phone and told him that his father was in the next room crying like a baby. It gets me now as I type this. As emotional as movies can make us, there is nothing like the real thing.

Anyone who makes it through Grave of the Fireflies without crying has no soul. Especially the scene where
[Show spoiler]Setsuko is eating rocks because she thinks they're Sakuma drops
.

Horrifyingly enough, the company makes tins with her picture on them. I saw them at Narita and I had to buy one in case no one believed me. It's hard to eat the candy out of it when you know what ultimately happens to it...

Apollo 13 gets me every time, that wait as they come out of reentry gets more nail-biting every time I watch it and then oh, what a release of emotion. I'm literally getting goosebumps as I type this.

Last flick that caused some waterworks was the end of Logan, I wasnae blubbering like a wee bairn but it certainly got me welling up. I was a wreck at the end of Carve Her Name With Pride though, I recently reviewed it on DVD and that ending hit me like a brick.

Logan has been the most recent movie to nearly bring me to tears. I watched a long chapter of my life that started in childhood until adulthood, end with the ending of that film.

Star Wars actually got me on three separate occasions when I was trying to do a marathon in chronological order. Both parts leading up to Luke learning of Vader as his father, then the moment Vader turns on the Emperor to save what he had left for family nailed the full circle arc.

Then of course I watched Han die again, lol.

Edit:

I wanted to say that I've noticed King Kong getting listed quite a bit. I think it's obvious because when he starts to scale that building, we've already been through this before and know it's happening again, but this version really pulls hard on it for some reason. If any of you have seen the extended version, you'll know he gets a bit of a reprieve to see the sunrise one list time before it yanks on you even harder. I hate Peter Jackson for including this, but now that whole sequence brings a point.
