I dont think it should be considered a comic book if it's history, or old mythology or characters that first appeared in a novel/movie like Aliens. Better to stick with the classics from Marvel, DC and most of the Dark Horse stuff, otherwise it could get confusing. Last edited by Easywolf32; 12-20-2008 at 07:24 AM. |

Considering that many of the elements in 300 are hardly grounded in history or reality, and the story follows the highly fictionalized events in the comic rather than the actual events, I'd say that makes it a comic book movie. Its direct inspiration was the graphic novel.

300 is most certainly a comic book movie. Any argument against that is illogical. A comic loosely based on history is still considered a comic. Simply pick up the graphic novel. The director used that comic and made a movie almost frame for frame like the panels of the comic. It is the literal definition of a movie made from a comic book. ![]() In addition: When 300 was released historians complained that the movie was not accurate. The director, Zack Snyder, responded by saying that the movie was based on a comic, not history. When 300 was released, Warner Brothers, local theaters, magazines, newspapers, etc. did cross promotions with comic stores to promote the movie. Finally - the movie was aggressively promoted as being a movie based on a comic. ![]() "From the creator of Sin City" which was previously touted as being the most faithful comic book adaptation. ![]() Even the international posters celebrated the "comic author Frank Miller" ![]() Last edited by Uberbot; 12-20-2008 at 08:01 PM. |

This is my personal taste, but I'd love to see Batman's costume revamped. I'd love to see Batman remade in a metalic-iron-steel glossy mirror black armor (like the PS3 gloss). That way, Batman will pretty much be an IRON MAN dark knight, with metalic pointy bat ears. You can give him a cape, but it would be THICK AND heavy looking. But he's not smooth silky looking like the silver surfer or the bad cop in the terminator 2. He's mildly geometric shaped (like the triangular shapes within a diamond) and less bulky than Iron Man up there. It would be so awesome, with that blue glow in the eyes, too. And you can still see his mouth, if necessary. Picture a kind of IRON MAN / BRUCE LEE BODY SHAPED / DARTH VADAR type of batman. NOW THAT is one heck of a fearsome, badass, kickassing looking batman. DC Comics needs me to revamp the batman. |

Thermopylae, was indead a real battle. Watch the Last Samurai if you don't belive me. There was some actual truth in the movie, babies with birth defects were killed, so the Spartan gene pool would be strong. From the History Channel program I saw all boy's/men that were joined the army. |

Leonidas is a true hero and legend, this is no myth, that's why we have statues, in his honor, in Sparta and near Thermopylae. Real people cannot be comic book heroes, if they can, than he and the 300 spartans are the only ones with a comic book. In other words, can you name any one of the 1 million comic books in which it's story AND characters are based on reality, you cant, because there is none, so why should 300 be any different. Just because it's written by Frank Miller or Dark Horse does not make it a comic book necessarily. Last edited by Easywolf32; 12-21-2008 at 12:56 PM. |

Dude. Ask any HISTORIAN and they would tell you that there isn't a whole lot of FACT in the movie and that it is based off of a comic. "Pearl Harbor" was more fact-based than this movie was! Ask any Iranian, this movie is far from FACT for them as well. They were pissed!

Anyone who think that 300 is not a comic book movie need to go and read about the real history of that battle.
Sure Leonidas was a real person but to claim that Frank Miller's version of him is historical facts, I don't know if that is such a good idea. My brother is an historian and everytime I want to make him go on a rant, I tell him how 300 is an historical movie ![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Thermopylae |

No one is arguing that the idea behind 300 is based in fact. Countless works of fiction are based in fact. However, the 300 comic is not an illustrated history book. It is a fictional tale that just happens to be loosely based on actual events. Might I suggest that your problem in grasping this lies in a difficulty perceiving that there are comics that have nothing to do with capes, tights and mutant super powers? Might I also suggest that you just want to stubbornly argue this subject. The movie studio promoted this as a movie based on a comic book. The director made this film because it is one of his favorite comics. The movie is referred to as "Frank Miller's 300" and here you are insisting it isn't a comic movie which, by definition, is a movie made from a comic. ![]() |
