I'm sure I sound like a broken record at this point, but the problem with these films is that they are trying too hard to be LOTR. Disney had, in its hands, LOTR under Miramax, and they let it go because it cost too much. Looking back, it was a horrible, horrible mistake.
So once the first LOTR film smashed records to pieces, they quickly moved on the Narnia rights and had no problem spending whatever it cost to make the movies - thinking that they would see the same success as LOTR. No so much. So here we are today, with The Hobbit getting anything and everything they want while the Narnia movies are fighting to even get made. And yes, I'll say it, Hollywood is just too damn repetative for their own good. They think that making the same film over and over is a good idea just because the first one was succesful. Let this be lesson to them, that I'm sure they'll forget soon enough. |

Honestly, this is a foolish move by Disney. They should have at least tried again with Dawn Treader. There were specific reasons why Prince Caspian didn't do as well as it did compared to the previous film and if they were to go back to how they went about releasing the first one they may strike gold again.

I love how $300+ million worldwide isn't enough to go forward with the project... Especially considering they opened in the summer when this is clearly a fall/winter movie, and they went up directly against Iron Man and Indy IV, with TDK on the horizon. I think they could still make a lot of money of the series, but too bad for them.
Not that I liked these films. The books aren't great to begin with, and the films in my opinion have a made-for-TV look to them (subpar CGI, terrible acting, lousy cinematography). I just know it's disappointing for the fans. |

Yeah, Fox has butchered too many films for me to have any faith in them handling Dawn Treader with care. I'd hope for a company like Columbia (Sony) or possibly Universal to handle it the way it should be handled.

He shopped it around, and when he went to New Line and they responded "Why is this two movies? The book was released in three parts!" He knew he was home and they went forward with production. |

Caspian will turn a profit eventually, it's just the drop between the two movies that probably spooked Disney. Caspian: Production Budget: $200 million WW Gross: $419.5 million Video (to date): $55 million Comes out to 2.37X as of now. It'll make a profit but compare it to Narnia: Lion, Witch, Wardrobe: Production Budget: $180 million WW Gross: $748.8 million Video: $353.5 million Comes out to an amazing 6.1X ![]() The trend worries them |

I don't know what movies you saw, but the CGI was hailed by most top critics as was the acting. As for Narnia being similar to LOTR, that makes sense the authors were both really good friends. I hope Dawn Tredder gets made and whatever studio handles the movie, places the movie in the winter. |
