PS3 & Onkyo 805 AVR via HMDI not showing DTS-MA - Blu-ray Forum

Hi,

When I set the ps3 to Linear PCM and play a blu-ray disc it will show up on my Onkyo 805 as "DVD Multi-ch" and display on my tv as DTS-MA. Now if I choose Bitstream option on my ps3 it will only show Dolby Digital on my AVR. Why, I thought I should see DTS-MA on my AVR??

The PS3 does NOT bitstream the lossless codecs, so DTS-HA MA or Dolby TrueHD will never show up on your receiver.

It can bitstream the older lossy Dolby Digital and regular DTS.

Set your PS3 to Linear PCM to your receiver. You will get the lossless codecs that way, but you will never get it to show up on any receiver as long as the PS3 is your player, as it will do all the decoding for you.

Yeah I feel you, Last night my brother got me another pair of Sony B1000 bookshelf speakers. Today we are going to my wifes parents, so Friday or Saturday I will be running wire under the house to set up my 6.1 setup (no room for 7.1).
