OEM playback software, from *ANY* manufacturer, is severely lacking.
Once *we* get a Full Retail version of playback software(ArcSoft/PowerDVD) problems vanish! Fighting with the stripped down OEM software is... not the best way to try and watch a Blu-ray. I scrapped the WinDVD BD that came with these VAIOs - replaced it with PDVD and ArcSoft(and WinDVD 9) and haven't looked back. OS is one aspect, availability of software is a big part of it too. ![]() |

I like how the same people that say that Macs are better tend to say "Because the bundled software is good enough for me/most people." So...they...pay MORE...to SETTLE on good enough software. Huh.
That said, I love Windows because all my high-end programs and games run better. I love my Zune because I can use it to play uncompressed WMA. I am on the wait list for an Xperia X1 because it has a REAL keypad, in addition to the touchscreen (and also runs my aps). Apple...has overpriced, underperforming products that rely on mind-control to sell I guess. The Apple cultists seldom have a lick of logic. And aren't they PART of the Blu Ray team? Not having the drives THEY support basically means they aren't making any money from the deal, doesn't it? |

Apple's "in hand" answer to the optical disc is the iPod. Gosh, I see more iPod cradles for sale than BD players. Some are designed to work with HDTVs or multi-channel sound systems linked to HDTVs. My dumb guess is that the bitrate and resolution of any video content of iPod stuff is pretty low, but sooner or later they will release one that has 1280x720p h.264 video with a circa 5 mbps bitrate that downloads or shares fairly fast and looks good enough on Homer Simpson's flatscreen. Bart will prefer that to BDs because the content will be easier to rip
![]() Even so, Apple is less a threat to BD than Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, LG, and Philips. All of them are peddling bargain bundles of standard DVD players with 5 channel sound sets and HDMI cables for prices that easily beat stand alone BD players in some cases. Even the advertising confuses the buyers, claiming the standard DVD players with HDMI are "the ideal player for your HDTV." The parents are killing their own BD child. |

MS don't even exist then. Now we can see history repeating themselves, MAC and co are once again arrogant bcos of their ipod success. Their newest 'innovation' is a macbook that look like a big ipod with a big wheel for 'easy' text entry ![]() Last edited by lch; 01-08-2009 at 05:27 AM. |

Apple isn't stubborn. HDCP is somewhat of the problem. Evidently to try to find away around it without stepping on anyone's toes.
Good to be here on my first post. Smells great here. Pete. |

My Vista machine (bought 1 month after launch), works and performs better than my 2 old XP machines, 2000, and 98 machines ever did! Oh, and also, It performs and does much more at half the cost of the iMac i use to have. I sold it after about a year and a half cuz it was junk. P.S. I like the iphones, but i hate AT&T... FYI. I'm not a MAC hater, i just prefer PC's WAY more. hehe ![]() |
