Default Yamaha 663 question

Hey all, I am having trouble setting up my new receiver. I have all the wires hooked up (labeled them as I went to be sure), and when I do the auto setup, it runs through the first test tone (which I can PLAINLY hear), then I get this message "E-1: NO FRONTS". I don't know what to do. I have all my speakers hooked up, and when I press retry it just gives me the same message Any help would be appreciated. Also, I only have a 5.1 setup at the moment, so I have the center hooked to the "Center", the fronts hooked to "Front A", and the surrounds hooked to "Surround", in case anyoe needs to know how I have things hooked up.

Could it be the microphone, like it's not properly detecting the sounds, so the receiver thinks there are no speakers??

Is there sound in all speakers whn not running set up? How about when you run a test tone using the menu?

Wires touching or crossed?

I had no issues with mine.

How do I just run test tones without doing the setup? I will definitely try that just to make sure I am hearing at least something... it's just that the auto setup doesn't even get to the rest of the speakers. The first tones come out, and immediately the error message pops up.

You may have a bad mic. I think some people here have had some problems with that

here's what it says in the manual about 'sound suddenly goes off'

Check that the speaker impedance is correct

Check that the speaker wires are not touching each other and then turn this unit back on

Pg 110 of the manual

sounds like u have your speaker wires set up improperly

But the sound isnt going off suddenly... it is the auto-setup that is having an issue. It does the first test tone and then the receiver says error. If I run test tones manually I hear them all with no sudden drop out of sound. I am waiting for my cable box to turn on so I can see if I hear sound from that.

Ok, so I turned the cable box on and I am getting sound. Only from the center and front, but it is just pro logic since it is the cable box. So does it sound like I have a bad mic??? And yeah, I adjusted my distance manually for now just so I have something decent. Any siggestions on crossover adjustments? The manual says to set the crossover on the sub to its highest, I assume so the receiver handles the crossover. Factory setting is 80... is that alright?

I think your microphone isn't connected properly, or it is tango uniform...

if all your speakers work and only the test fails, then yah it sounds like like a faulty mic...have u done the obvious...unplug and plug it back in...reset power too?
