Would you save up more for this Onkyo TX SR606? Or Yamaha RX-V663BL. I never had either of the brands

They're both really well-regarded receivers. You can't go wrong either way.

I'm more a Yamaha man than an Onkyo fan (shhh - I'll get attacked)

So the 663 I would pick over the 606, if those were your only two options.

I personally do not have any experience with the PS3 but have noticed that there are a lot of post were the PS3 has issues with not only the Onkyo but others as well. Most seem to be issues with the PS3 decoding the HD audio and not passing it correctly to the receiver or issues with HDMI handshake.

Ok let me clarify what I am trying to say is that there were some issues I had read before were the PS3 is decoding the audio and the receiver is not showing the HD signal. You have make a change to the PS3 to get it to pass through. I think that Crackinhedz had talked about it before.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=78711

Please correct me if I am wrong after reading through all of the post for info they all start to run together.

I would say that either of the 2 receiver mentioned yamaha 663 or onkyo 606 or if you can find the sony 920 it is an excellent receiver too, usually around that price... I would prefer the yammy or sony over the onkyo... I may get attacked too.
