Counter their saying that by saying "Well in that case, go buy the movie, since it's 'just a movie'".

I have let my cousin borrow my BD's and he knows I am anal about getting them messed up. I let him borrow my BD's in a blank BD case with no cover art or nothing since I got about 10 extra BD cases. It works and my movies sometimes come back with some finger prints but never with any scratches.

I give everyone a chance, but I state up front three simple rules, that if broken even once, you lose your priviledges:

Rule One:
The item must be returned within two weeks.
Rule Two:
The item must be in the exact condition it was in when borrowed.
Rule Three:
No collections. I should not have to ask for the item or have to collect it myself.

I tell them that if any of these rules are broken, even once, you lose all borrowing priviledges and this goes for blu-rays, books, CD's, anything. And
I make no exceptions, no forgiveness, family, friend, or neighbor.

Right now I am lucky I am the only one who has Blu. But with Dvds I had rules.

1) Only borrow two movies at a time (unless it was mom, she never borrowed more then one though)

2) Has to be returned in two weeks. (My friend Ron had a copy of our friend Scott's big Fish for Over a Year!)

3) you fudge it up, you replace it imediately and I don't care if means spending rent money!

4) No damages

5) Take movies without my permission (My sister was the master at this. Even though I had over 700 movies I would know when one was gone. She was supply in messing up my collection).

Break these rules, any of them and youare banned from borrowing again.

My rule for loaning out dvds and blu-ray are simple. I don't. That's why they are in pristine condition. Not a scratch.

I'm sure most of you have seen this, but in case you haven't, one of the best rants I've seen concerning the loaning of movies.

I'm Not Blockbuster

I hate lending DVD's/CD's/BD's to friends simply because I've lost too many of my packaged media. My friends have borrowed my packaged media and sometimes do not return it. I can think of 5 DVD's that I've loaned out that were not returned back to me. I feel uncomfortable asking them to return them and now it’s simply been too long.

My strategy for NOT lending DVD's/BD's is to direct my friends to Netflix. Failing that plan, I never lend more than one disk to a friend at a time and give them a one week block of time to watch the movie and return the disk back to me. If they fail to return the disk within the agreed timeframe, I never loan disks to them again.

Good friends have no problem with this rule.
My friends don't...
Makes me wonder about the friend choices some here have made.

i used to loan alot of dvd's but have not had i would say 15-20 not come back to me over the years which is not cheap, lets say these people are no longer around in my life,, i look at it like it cost me $20 to get rid of some leaches. now with blu-ray the rules have changed i loan to three people that i have turned on to blu-ray but the rules are as follows

1. 1 week return time
2. The case and disc must be returned in the condition they went out, if not then a new copy will be mine from the person, no questions asked.

3. $2.50 for each blu-ray loaned, they dont like it boo who go to blockbuster.

and with the small rental charge i expand my collection and we all are happy.
oh ya i run a tight ship now.

i dont let ppl rent out my Blu/DVDs... except for my uncle...

It's cool being the "blu-ray guy" in my family/circle of friends.. but now it's time to share lol

All the bragging I've done about blu-ray movies is coming back to bite me in the buttocks!!!
WRITE THEM DOWN AND WHO HAS THEM.....

You will loose track and they will dissappear.
