Hi All
As per subject - even general explorer in Vista (32) doesn't see Blu-Ray - ejects the drawer and asks for a disc. The bad thing is that after spitting out a Blu-Ray disc once it won't even take ordinary DVD's now (CD's are OK) - any ideas? Firmware is apparently up to date, drive has two lenses (I didn't take it out, but Device manager says MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ-220S ATA Device - must be a BD! The driver dates back to 21-06-2006 though) and it's an original VAIO VGN-FZ31S - supposed to not just read, but also record Blu-Ray! Please help! (or my girlfriend will take her disc somewhere else...!) L. Last edited by LJM17; 01-04-2009 at 12:01 AM. Reason: All these spelling details... ;) |

Vista? Why the... <shuts up>
![]() Might be a hardware issue. Have you checked to make sure your system specs are good enough for blu-ray? By the way... its blu-ray, not blue ray. ![]() Sorry im not of any use... |

What software player do you have?
I *think* it has something to do with having a UDF Reader installed on the machine. Pretty sure when I installed ArcSoft TMT, it included the Sonic UDF reader. Anyways, this is from my AR730E/B with Vista Home Premium SP1. Sees *Cars* fine. ![]() Ok, with that said, did the machine ever play a Blu-ray? When was it? WinDVD BD for VAIO is a joke BTW, lose it and get a full version - trust me! I recommend ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre. Even integrates into Media center! ![]() |

I have the built-in WINDVD 8 and I never played a blu-ray on it before - the first time I did was tonight, which is when it tripped over. It did play DVD's though and it does no more... |

![]() Well... Good luck i guess. Just don't pull the disc tray open... That's never a good thing. I learned that the hard way. |

You can go to Help and Support, Backup and recovery, VAIO Recovery center and reinstall the WinDVD, then to VAIO Support website and update the player - but it might not fix it.
I have had a few newer discs tried in the OEM WinDVD either play the trailers then stall or do nothing whatsoever. ![]() PowerDVD 8 Ultra - plays the discs fine! ArcSoft TMT - plays the discs fine! Uninstalled the OEM WinDVD and haven't looked back. |

OK thanks for that - but can a player cause the discs not to be recognized by windows itself? Not too familar with this - will do as you suggested.

Windows, natively, will not see the disc at all.
Sometimes, it will see something but display it as 0bytes and no information for you to look at. Once a UDF reader is on the machine it *should* see all the information that is viewable - size/type/folders/files - all of it... like the picture I posted. Hope this helps! ![]() |

OK I see.
Tried the recovery - WinDVD isn't even there among programs and the closest I could find is VAIO BD Menu Data. I tried reinstalling this, but half way through I get Error: 505: 29 Any ideas...? |

How old is that machine?
Has it ever been recovered - at all? Was something maybe removed that could have taken something with it that it shouldn't have? Ok, freaky... not listed in mine either! ![]() I know it's the Intervideo version of WinDVD BD... Odd. |

I found it in Control Panel>Programs>Progarms and Features and tried repairing - fatal error when it didn't find WinDVD.msi
How much was the full version...? :/ Last edited by LJM17; 01-04-2009 at 01:54 AM. |

Back to your questions - two months old, never recovered, never seen a blu-ray disc before.
The above is a top shelf? I guess you don't recommend a full WinDVD...? |

PowerDVD 8 Ultra will. ArcSoft TMT will. WinDVD uses (marginally but still) more system resources than either PDVD or ArcSoft. NOTE: ArcSoft TMT integrates into Media Center... ![]() ^^^ A plus for both of my ARs Corel WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray - $79.99 http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satelli...0&tabview=tab0 PowerDVD 8 Ultra - $74.96 http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/produ...n_1_en_US.html |

I guess I'll decide between the two then (PowerDVD and ArcSoft TMT) - but that's for tomorrow - it's 3am here in the UK!
Thanks for your help! |
