I thought mabye it's the movie, tried the mummy agian and it was a no-go, It will not see the disk. Anyone have a clue? Before i forget it's a BD-ROM BC-5500A ATA-Device as far as i can understand thats Sony NEC? |

the problem isn't that it won't play
the drive won't find the disk and the last update, not sure, not to long ago. tried other software, still nothing |

This will *usually* allow you to see the disc in Windows Explorer as an actual disc with something on it. Also, the full version software(s) get updated way more often. So, the disc will play? |

I recommend getting a full version player and discarding the OEM player software.
PowerDVD 9 Ultra or ArcSoft TMT 3 Platinum. The machine usually doesn't have to be able to see or ID the diosc, only thing that really matters is if it will play. *MOST* of my discs can be seen by the OS, but not all of them. *ALL* of my discs will play. |

The equipment is different, but I've written about this the last few weeks. Mine is on a PS3 and recently I am legend has stopped being recognized, as if it wasn't inserted at all. Its the only movie that it does it on. Marine Mike said that he has had a few disks get in this mode and when he replaced the laser in the PS3, all the disk started working again.
What I have a problem with is one movie not being recognized while many other do. And if I put I Am Legend in, and its not recognized, the next few movies won't be recognized either, then they all start to work after power cycling, all expect I Am Legend. How does this apply to your problem. Is it the laser? I don't know, but I hate having a problem that makes no sense. Kccarl |

I have the same BD drive and the exact same problem as the original poster.
My pc is an HP HDX Dragon. I got it last year and back then I had no problem with playing Blu-ray discs. Recently It stopped reading them... it doesn't even recognize them. If I try to open them from the "Computer" window it ejects the disc tray and asks for me to "Insert a disc", even if it is already inside. My OS is Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I have all Windows Updates up to today. The software I use to try to play them is QuickPlay v3.7, the latest version as far as I know. I've also tried to use Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 as was suggested by dadkins but the same problem happens. It says there's no disc in the drive, even if there is. Device Manager says the driver for the Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500A ATA Device is up to date. I don't have any problems with reading CDs or DVDs, only Blu-ray discs. Any kind of help would be appreciated! |

Seem to have the same problem... Blu-ray discs are not recognized anymore. HP HDX Dragon with Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500A. I have upgraded QuickPlay to the latest version (even though it continues to say a newer version is available). Have not installed any other third party playback software. Any clues?

Yes... QuickPlay always says there's a new update... I downloaded it ten times myself before I realized it was the same one...
Got advice from other forum (NotebookReview) and they say I should try cleaning the drive with one of those special drive cleaners... Maybe I'll try it later. |

yesterday i bought the acer aspire 7738 and the sample blu-ray disc worked without any problems so today i bought the blu-ray version of benjamin button and well had the same problem-disc is inserted the 'computer' shows the files but the acer player i used yesterday too does not recognize the disc-wether benjamin button nor the sample disc
i've read that you can change codes or something in settings->bd but instead of getting to another menu by clicking on bd it just goes back to saying no disc recognized.. and yes it's all new and up-to-date of course! is there anybody who ever solved that problem??? |

I had this same problem but it was my ps3. The laser was shot....had to be replaced....Just like everyone has said, worked with one disc and would fail with another, then all would fail. Power off and it works again....but that was temporary untill it didnt read any discs anymore....I'm guessing its busted and you should bring it in for service or to have it looked at by a pro. |
