Default Vizio VP505VXT

Costco has the new Vizio VP505XVT 50" plasma for about $1,200...this TV compares with the Panny 800 series.

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on this unit...the price is very attractive.

Well I like Vizio they offer decent prices for HDTV's. Then again why not spend the extra 100 to 200 bucks and get yourself a Panny plasma that costco sells.

Pan Th50pz80u $1350 shipped (amazon)

Vizio $1200+ Tax around $1280

so for $70 would i go with Panasonic over Vizio. YES 100% percent

I would not trust a Vizio Plasma.

well you've made up your mind. CNET did give it a good review but I didn't see anything that said it did 24 FPS. At least you get an extra year warranty with costco and a 90 return policy. Go ahead and give it a shot but still keep your eye on that Panasonic Plasma.

That video processing of HQV, as I understand it, can match ANY cadence. Which means that BDs that offer 24p can be played on this (I think).

If you try that on those low-end Panasonics, it won't look quite right.

HQV Cadence

And no, my mind isn't made up. I'm just comparing this to the low-end Panasonics and it's looking like a better value. My first choice was a Sony XBR6 52" but this thing is half the price and appears to have potentially a better picture.

I'm a Vizio fan, my sister works for them, got to visit their HQ in Irivine, CA. So of course I'm going to lean toward Vizio. But, for the price it's pretty damn good!

Technical specifications don't mean squat when comparing a Vizio to a Panasonic. Unfortunately, you won't be able to compare the Costco Vizio to a Pany 800U because they don't sell them. You can compare it to the current Costco model, which is similar to the 80U or 85U, but the Costco environment is terrible for comparing TVs.

I would not waste my $$ on a Vizio, but that's me. Their quality is sub-par, they promote questionable business practices and I try NOT to buy Chinese anything if I can help it.

so say hello to @ $1200
I just went to a Costco in Temecula Ca. The 50" Panasonic they sell is currently at $ 1199. There is a manufactures instant rebate on it.

505 is using a panasonic plasma panel & HQV video chip, makes for a very good comparison.

For you guys disparaging this set, you may be right. However, Consumer Reports considered this set's predecesser to be a top value in cost vs picture quality vs reliability.

This set uses Panasonic glass and the HQV gives it capabilities that the Panasonic 80U doesn't have.

Panasonic makes a good TV no doubt. But there seems to be a bit of Panny-snobism on this site that smacks of following the concensus as opposed to studying alternatives.

Have you not looked at my sig. I have and had owned Vizio's and like any manufacture that wants to stick around they improve their products. I still would recommend for the same price to get the Panny. Either way you really do not have much to loose buying from Costco.

UltimateAVmag Review

quote:
"Just for grins, I used an HDMI splitter to feed the same signal to the Vizio and the Pioneer Elite PRO-101FD 50-inch plasma monitor ($4500, review forthcoming). Of course, the Pioneer beat the Vizio with much lower blacks and an even punchier picture, but I was shocked to see that the difference was not all that pronounced, at least in relatively bright scenes. If money were no object, I'd choose the Pioneer, but the Vizio gives you 80 percent of the picture quality for a third of the price—and the Pioneer has no tuner or onboard audio. "

1-year IN HOME warranty, standard

2-year warranty by Costco & an extra year warranty if you buy with the Costco AMEX

Consumers reports disagrees with your view, btw.
