Universal Studios The Mummy (1999) / The Mummy Returns (2001)

I just ordered them from Amazon.ca and was just wondering whether people who owned the 2 on DVD previously and now have it on Blu, was it worth the upgrade? I love both of the movies, a lot and I just wanted to see what you guys all thought. Basically they won't ship till the 27th as I've included another item bundled together w/ them for my sister which doesn't come out till the 27th. So I just want to make sure their worth the buy or should I pick something else up. Their both $19.95 CDN, which sounds like an okay price.

Thanks.

I bought the trilogy box set on release day, and boy, so much better.

So much better indeed that I gave away my DVD copies to my Dad on Christmas Eve.

I was going to do this as well. But I ended up renting the 3rd as I was a bit concerned about not liking it. What with no Rachael & no Egypt setting/theme (which I just love) as well as the change in director and boy was I right to be concerned. Watching the 3rd one was just painful for me.

To me, the third one wasn't bad. The only thing bad about it was Maria Bello replacing Rachel Weisz as Evie O'Connell. Bello's a great actress, but she was completely lost and out of place in that one.

I like all three (although the third one seems unrelated to the first two). One can usually find the Mummy movies on BD at very reasonable prices. The PQ and AQ of all three are about a 9.0 on the Richter scale. In other words, they

I loved the third one and actually think it is better than the second one. Of course neither of them are as good as the first one.

Without a doubt, yes. I bought the trilogy pack when it came out and have watched the first two so far. They both have great PQ. You will notice a huge difference.

they can be a bit soft in spots,
but other than that, easily recommended.

Actually I thought the first hour of the second one was best of all, but then it became silly in script and heavy in CGI, and it quickly sank.

I'll be a bit more reasonable in my assesment of the PQ. I picked it up after reading all the great reviews, but was disappointed. The opening scenes look a bit too filtered for my tastes (basically from the opening til we meet Evy). After that, I think the video is pretty solid with the most notable exceptions being the brighter desert scenes that exhibit edge enhancement and DNR - nothing too crazy but enough to be annoying. On the whole though, it's good. I'd definitely get the first film if you like the movie. I hadn't seen it in a very long time and was surprised by how entertaining it was.

Just had to throw in my two cents here... as for PQ The Mummy looks great, though I must admit that Returns wasn't quite up on the same level... its better than the dvd counterpart but after seeing the first one I was expecting the same kind of quality and was disappointed.

The sharpness and fine detail is not on the same level with the sequel as it is in the first one.

As for set up I am viewing the movie on a 92" screen.

To each their own, but I really enjoyed the crap out of the 3rd one. Nowhere near as much as the 1st one, but I still enjoyed it for what it was, popcorn fare.
