Default Dynex any good?

Im looking for a new LCD TV. how are the dynex? i found this 32" 720p at best buy: Dynex DX-LCD32-09 the have it on sale for $397. is it worth it? how is picture quality? i will be using this for my 360, movies, and tv which i have a HD box already with whatever free HD channels i get. ill probably be getting a ps3 in april as i hear they r cutting the price to $299 which is good news. anyway, can anyone give me some pros cons on this tv, is it worth it?

I think the silence speaks volumes. maybe you should save a little longer for a name brand with 1080p

silence? i only posted it 5 mins before you posted your reply. BB also has a 37" dynex for $529. is the 5" more worth over $100? as much as ive always been big on brand names, my money is tight so im trying not to be so picky anymore. is the picture quality really that bad compard to other tvs of similar price? i mean thefeatures for the price is great since some tvs u get less features for more money. anyone else with a helpful criticisim?

It's actually not a bad unit, but I'm concerned about overall quality of components. I'd hate to see it die or go haywire right after the warranty ends.

Still, it's a decent starter set, and the price is great. Remember, it's a 740p set, not 1080p, but that's not important in a smaller set. You really can't go wrong if you don't mind a small risk of it not being worth repairing down the line.

Side note: every time I buy a cheap, small TV, the damn thing never dies, and I wind up using it forever for one thing or another, until I give it away...

I've seen the Dynex TV's on display in Best Buy, while they don't have the picture quality of a name brand(and i'm pretty sure you realize that) it has some decent quality for the price. But do make sure you get an warranty on it because some (not all) cheaper tv's inputs can stop working on you, case in point my moms Westinghouse that non of the HDMI ports work on it.

yea. im going to go in to best buy and see what time of comparisions i can do. hopefully they have the dynex up and running so i can look at them. BB has a LG 32" 720p that im going to look at. thats $599. so im going to see if the picture is that much better to warrant the money.

I love negative comments from people who've never owned. Always makes for a good opinion.

Granted its no Panasonic or Pioneer, these little guys do a good job for the price. My 32" Dynex has been going strong for almost a year. Honestly cannot think of any negatives. Besides wishing I would have gone larger than 32".

Bluray (PS3) looks great, and does a nice job with SD channels. Has all the inputs you may need.

Plus the tv has a sleek piano black bezel which looks really nice too. Well at least mine does, not sure how the newer model looks? Also a built in OTA HD tuner. Again not sure if the newer model has this?

...anyways, for the price its been great.

That would be best, it's always better to go and look at the TVs first hand. There's only so far internet research can go, you need that real world look to make a final decision.

i own a 42'' dynex 1080p that i got for 579.00 at best buy. i dont know HOW i got it for that price but i did. i previously had a 32'' toshiba 720p that i bought for 499.00. i thought to myself.. for 79 bucks more i get 10 inches and a 1080p upgrade..

dont worry yourself over name brand if price is an issue. i bought the 4 year warranty on it for 99 bucks more. thats basically 679.00+tax for a 42'' 1080p tv. if you calibrate it correctly, you shouldn't have any problems. the warranty will ensure you have a working set for 4 years down the road when basically all of the top of the line tvs now will be obsolete anyways.

long and short of it---- its a great brand to start off with but know this: you'll be longing for something better soon enough. you have to think about whether you wanna stick with it for the long haul or just save up and purchase something NICE right off the bat. neither choice is a bad choice and for the money i spent i dont mind my dynex one little bit.

P.S. i covered the dynex brand sign on my tv with my center channel speaker. =]

I have a 37" in my bedroom. HD looks great on it. SD looks like SD. I had my PS3 hooked up to it just to see how BD looked on a 720p tv. It looked incredible. I will be getting another BD player for the bedroom.

I think the Insignia is better for only a little more, or even go Toshiba as they have priced compareable models to Insignia.

Dynex is okay, but I'd spend just a tid bit more for a substantially better picture (mainly in contrast ratio/better blacks).

Yeah, I tend to agree with Brian^^^^ on this. Dynexes tend to have that washed out look and grayish blacks, sort of like Westinghouses. I know because I look at them at our service center every day. I'd go with the Insignia in comparable sizes. Some of the newer 32" and 37" Insignias actually have pretty good contrast levels.

I would agree to go higher if you could afford it.

I would not recommend Dynex. Dynex is a private label brand, at Best Buy meaning they only sell it there. I use to work there. They sell it cheaper than other brands. I have known some people who have bought them and start having problems a bit later.

So basically you are paying what you get in other words your not getting a high quality steal.

That's true.. you get what you pay for. But if you need a starter set, its not the worst thing you can get.

So is Insignia - but they're built by LG(and look remarkably similar to LG's lineup) - same set, different bezel?
Dynex is probably built by a popular manufacturer as well and simply sold for a big discount.
