the big question is, why?

nope - not enough memory

You can only install Linux on the PS3

I don't think that we will be able to put any MS software on there (I am talking about a straight up install and not through another OS that needs to be installed prior) for as long as they are not going to embrace Blu-ray.
Sony will make sure about that... and MS certainly does not want to lose out on more Xbox sales.

The PS3 doesn't have enough RAM to run OSX, Windows 7 or Vista. None of the consoles do. Stripped down Linux is as good as it's going to get this gen.

win 2000, and windows 98se run pretty good through BOCH's pretty wellthough anything like xp, and vista .lol both xp and vista require too much ram to be viable to use on the PS3 through the Hypervisor's+Boch's+Linux all running in the background on top of trying to run xp, let alone vista.lol

but you can get window's 2000, and Window's 98..

Could any form of Windows even know how to handle the Cell? Pretty sure that there's nothing Windows has deals with the non x86 architecture.

Looks like someone doesn't like their PS3 very much.

It looks like they stacked the PS3 on top of their PVR/Cable box {those things put of a pretty good amount of heat}

yes, through the fact that what Microsoft has made for the xbox360 dashboard works on powerPC processor's, that would be able to be used on the PS3 with "some tweak's " to take advantage of the PS3's Cell processor. Microsoft has made in the past ver. of window's that did work on PowerPC processor's ,but mainly as you said Window's is made to work on the x86. Microsoft would have to make a ver. of window's to work on the Cell, which may not be such a bad Idea., though i doubt Intel or AMD would like that though
