I tried searching for a bad experience tread but nothing came up. If the mods want to move this then go right ahead.
![]() I just wanted to remind everyone here that there are scammers out there. They are here just to take your $ and go from forum to forum. I was a little hesitant with seeing a new member on dvd talk selling seasons 1&2 of Lost for $27 shipped(extremely low for those box sets). I figured..well, I was a new member once too. Everyone needs to start somewhere. He also supplied his ebay id. ****Ebay Id's really do nothing. Anyone can find a 100% id and use it. So try and get more than one source when dealing with "new people." I'm happy to report that I've not had any problems on this site so far. Most members are very professional with transactions. So trade safe everyone and be cautious.... ![]() |

well, it's actually pretty simple. ebay is all you need for a reputation. all you have to do is message the id that the person gives you to make sure it's really them. sorry bout that, but at least it was 'only' 27 dollars ![]() |

It's pretty pathetic what people will do to get such a small amount of money. I'm always leery of super deals and usually ask the person to ship first with tracking. As others have stated, email or contact the Ebay ID to confirm and if you paid by Paypal, file a claim.

As a previous poster said you can message people through eBay's system to verify IDs and also have them make a listing on eBay for whatever they are selling you and send you the auction number so you can bid on it and win it. Sorry to hear you got screwed.

Not true at all. I payed a member on here a long while back $70 for 5 movies. Never get them had to file a Paypal claim and Paypal said the person had no funds in their account so I couldn't get my money back. So yeah pretty much just got ripped off for $70 no different than if someone snuck into my room at night and just took it from my wallet. Paypal isn't guaranteed refund if you get scammed sorry.
This member also made attempts long ago by saying they were going to refund me but haven't heard back from them since. Guess the person was just trying to get me to take away the bad feedback I left them. |

I've done literally hundreds of trades/sales on DVDTalk, and have only gotten screwed once, but that guy screwed a lot of people. Regardless of feedback, you are always taking your chances. This guy in particular was a gold trader, and I guess decided to scam a bunch of people at the same time. I don't know if he was moving or something, but he got a number of people.
Anyway, too bad about the transaction, but you can't really blame the site, as the same thing could easily have happened here or any other site. |

one of the biggest reasons why we don't have the issues here like other forums is you have to be logged in or a member to see the trading forum, keeps lurkers from watching the forums and creating accounts to do bogus trading.
Those forums are owned by the same people They dont care about safeguarding the user from this. Try and get a personal response from an admin there, impossible. They have a fast food resturant approach and are only interested in numbers/volume so they can make money from all the ads running in the background. When you get to big, you lose your personal touch. Sorry to hear about that and we try our best to prevent things like that. Heres more background on the subject http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Brands |

Thanks for the postive remarks. I agree that "Karma will get him."
I'm not sure how Paypal will treat it. I'll contact them in another week and file a claim but I doubt I'll get anywhere. |

From my experience the membership at HDD is more likely by enthusiasts, where as you do have members here trying out Blu-ray and ripping you off. Last edited by avhed; 01-20-2009 at 02:57 AM. |
