The first VHS release of this film was the censored TV version, which was missing, among other things, the monsters attacking the girls' hootenanny party.

Admit One of Toronto then released a complete VHS, but it was a typical overly-dark transfer from that company.

Dark Sky Films released a better transfer on DVD, but many felt that they miss-framed the aspect ratio, cutting off foreheads, etc.

Hopefully, Severin will correct the aspect ratio.

I'm in!!

Too bad these movies are released without the MSTK3 versions as extras.
Nah, it's a plus they don't waste disc space on those IMO. These films are much more entertaining without the bottom third of the screen eaten up by would-be comedians.

Some of these movies are made better by those "would-be comedians"! The MST3K episode of Party Beach, is one of the best.

I take it you're not a fan of MST3K? Oh well, to each their own!

I actually own a copy of that publication.

I'm now less interested in this. With a title like that, it feels like this should've been shot in Venice Beach, not Connecticut. Yeah, not feeling this one.
You do realize that there are actual real beaches in Connecticut, not just “inlets? When I was a kid, my parents would often take me to Hammonnasset Beach, which was beautiful. Here are some of the beaches located in Connecticut - I have no idea where the movie was filmed, but it could very well have been at any one of these places:

As for the film itself, it’s definitely campy and cheesy. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it, but from what I can remember, I would suggest anyone who hasn’t seen it watch before blind buying, just in case!

I love Stephen King, and I’m a lifelong fan of his work, but I hope that the special features on this Blu-ray include at least one person calling him out on what he wrote. He needs to be put in his place with regard to this statement.

As scrappy as The Horror of Party Beach is, it is not as self-indulgent as the last three books in The Dark Tower series, and, unlike a lot of recent King works, it doesn’t date itself with snide political barbs. Instead, this is a timeless movie that families will be able to enjoy for centuries to come.
Ironic from the Writer/Director of Maximum Overdrive.

It looks like some of it may well have been be shot at Hammonasset Beach. At 17 mins in a girl swims out to the end of what looks like Meigs Point to me, she sits on the rocks then is killed by the monster.

Back in the 1980's, I screened a 16mm print of PARTY BEACH for a Seattle film society. The audience laughed during the monster scenes, but they also unexpectedly laughed when a scientist father suddenly tried to instruct his teenage daughter in the ways of etiquette. I guess nobody anticipated a "message" to be provided by this film. It was kind of a WTF moment.

The audience really enjoyed the film, by the way.

Fun, goofy movie ... with some WAY cool surf tunes in it. The Del-Aires were the group featured in the movie, and they did some personal appearances drive-ins showing the film, but it didn't do much for their careers. They were from New Jersey.

Sadly, they were somewhat hurt by a killing at a club after one of their shows. They weren't involved in any way, but the publicity did some damage. There's an article about it ou-line, but I can't find it at the moment.

Can't wait for the blu-ray -- that film is a summer tradition for me.

I found the article. Fun read! The part about the Del-Aires starts about half way through. https://www.theaquarian.com/2011/01/...f-human-blood/

BTW, the actually put out more than those three singles. There's now an album collecting most of their stuff. It's on Amazon. It's called Zombie Stomp.

I really hope they release more Del Tenney, particularly The Curse of the Living Corpse. Or I Eat Your Skin.

Actually, I wish we would have just gotten a double feature of these two tbh.
