Go down to the second post on the screen. That might be what you are talking about.

I bought a whole deck and then found out it'd be harder to replace that then just the laser. So I took the laser off the deck and swapped it with the broken one. Maybe that is why I didn't have to do anything with the laser it's self.

I believe you are mis-interpretting what he is saying. Look at your laser's clip. It isn't white, but actually brown. This means that its the new (reliable) laser.

I bought the same exact one and at first didn't know it was actually a clip!

I seriously was about to kill someone when I went to the step of clipping it in. Just look very closely at it and you will see that its actually a brown clip, not white.

I didn't understand that the brown clip was actually a clip. I thought it was just missing the white clip.

But anyways I installed it in my PS3 and it works.. but not fully..

It plays DVD movies, music CD's, and PS2 games, but not Ps3 games or Blu Ray movies.

Does this mean that the new laser is no good? Or is there something else that could be causing this?

Ya unfortunately the laser is bad. That is what happened to mine, would read everything except BD's. I'd try contacting the seller and telling them it's bad and you want to send it back for a new one. Threaten to leave negative feedback and post that they sell bunk stuff if you have to.

Ok, I'll try getting it exchanged.

Although I read somewhere that it might have to do with the firmware that my PS3 has. Any idea if there is any truth to this? Or is it definitely the just a faulty laser?

I had the same problem when I ordered my first laser, but it was my fault as I didn't read the seller's page carefully enough and didn't notice the part that stated it didn't read DVDs or CDs, just Blu-Rays. Re-read the seller's page and see if it states it doesn't read Blu-rays or something. Also it is possible you got a funked laser.

I haven't heard of a firmware update being an issue with a laser. Though its always a good idea to have the most up to date firmware.

Thanks for posting this. My PS3 was bitten this weekend and it no longer recognizes BD based disks anymore. All my PS2, PS1, SD DVD's, and burned DVD's work fine. Of course this happens 2 months after my warranty expires.

BTW I have an 80gb B.C ps3

hi guys i had the same problem it stoped reading discs but was able to insert and remove disc

changed my laser last nite brand new one........

put my blu ray dvd in and now its going beep beep beep flashing blue light?
and not letting me take the disc back out?
before i was able to remove disc but now i can't?

before and now its still not showing the icon

whats going on lol any help would be great cheers!

i ended up fixing it but now it wont play blu rays just dvds????? wtf hahaha is it faulty?
by the way looks like they tryed ripping me off giving me the white laser not the brown one

Not all the white clip lasers are bad. The one I got had a white clip and fixed my problem. I think it's just they are more prone to failure then the new brown ones. Did you buy it from someone/storefront that had a high amount(at least 25 I'd say) of feedback with it mostly positive(90%+)? That might be something to add to the guide. I have a faulty laser sitting next to me I could put up on ebay and try and scam $50 bucks out of.

And ya that is what mine was doing before I replaced the laser. Would play everything except BD's. Sounds like a faulty laser to me. If you can contact the seller and demand to send it back for another one.

I just finished outlining my video tutorial for replacing the laser.

Its now waiting approval from the head Gaming Moderator to see if its ok if I include the name of this website in my tutorial.

I don't want to have any copyright issues going on or something.

Once approval is given or denied, I'll go ahead and start filming!

Yup definitely get it exchanged since it is a bunk laser.

Alright, so I have never uploaded a video to Youtube before and when I do I get an error AFTER I took the time to upload.

Unknown error has occurred.

What gives? I've tried googling it, but I just see no 'copyright' material, yet I see other videos on youtube with the same title as mine.

Please help!!

EDIT: Alright, I've editing some keywords and it seems like it liked that better. So in a few hours I'll post the link for that on here.
