suddenly my ps3 stops playing all blu rays

does anyone have this problem? My blu rays have literally all stopped playing on my 40 gb ps3, at first some froze while i was watching it, then when i load in a disc, it freezes and says it couldn't recognize disc with some code, and now NONE of my movies won't play, but my games still do. Is my ps3 broken?? i have tooken such good care of it, i don't know why this is happening? does anyone have a clue?(ps i have the firmware updates if thats important and the blu ray discs are clean)

I have a friend that had the same prob.but he could not play games but he could watch BDs.He sent it back and found out that he was getting a little moisture from his basement and plus smoking in the same room with it glazed the eye!

Yes, your PS3 doesn't read discs, so by definition it is broken. Get it fixed.

i had the same thing happen to me had to send it back to sony and they replaced it for free but it was still under warrenty hope yours is

im going to make a guess and say maybe its the laser that detects the Blu-ray movies and PS3 games

I had a situation where my PS3 stopped recognising blu-ray discs when I put them in, but would still read DVD's fine. Fairly obviously it was the Blu-ray lens that was broken. Sony sent a new PS3 to my house 2 days later and took the old one away.

That's a Sony product for you. I dread the day mine starts doing this. I just hope I have a stand alone player by then.

i bought a 40gb from craigslist....worked for a week then it stopped 1 hour into ironman blu ray.

i went to blockbuster and got the dvd version to complete the final hour or ironman.

well ahyway, eventually(a day later) i got some sort of error code that meant my blu ray laser was done for.

i called playstation but playstation wants a receipt when you go to use your warranty.....i didnt have one due to buying it on craigslist.

so i went to walmart bought an 80gb ps3...swapped out the reg controller for dualshock, swapped out 40gb ps3 for new 80gb and returned it within 2 hours

told them "my wife says we cant afford this" and WHAA_LAA got all my cash back.

i feel bad for the next guy but i tried to return it to playstattion and the stupid 'we need a receipt" made me do what i had to do.

i dont understand why they cant know by seriel # when it was bought as they scan the box seriel # when you purchase the system

luckily at walmart the videogame mgr was cool and laughing at my "made up situation" so he didnt even open up the box!!

Wow, thats clever thinking and a major rip-off on your part...i don't know at which part i'm more amazed on....anyways to the OP as somone else mentioned your lazer died so you either pay around 150 to sony or do what this guy did....good luck..

Go ahead and check out the link in my signature to see if its your laser or you have a bad Blu-ray disc. Though you state that your games still work. Are they PS2 or PS3 games? If they are PS2 then that means it plays DVDs compared to Blu-ray PS3 games.

Also if your PS3 is still under warranty your best bet is to send it into Sony to repair it for free.
