It says in the article that the 'High Definition Trilogy' will be the only opportunity for the consumer to get the first 2 Spiderman movies on Blu-ray disc. Does that mean that Sony won't be releasing these titles individually (at a later date)?
Of course they will. 6-12 months later.

Quote:
Maybe it will be the only opportunity at this stage. Unless they are planning to release Spider-Man as a box set only? But then why release the third film seperately?
Because they assume most people already have 1 and 2 on DVD

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the single version of MI2 have two discs but the boxed set one only had 1? So if they release Spider-Man 1 and 2 seperately next year they might each have a bonus disc that we won't get if we buy the trilogy pack. Might be better to wait in that case?

you have to rememebr, ebay is always another option. I guarantee the first week the trilogy is out will come down to about $80 bucks or so. I may be wrong but im pretty confident that may be the case.

Besides, think logically. Even at $100 , thats $33 per bluray. Call me crazy but thats how much blurays cost (close to $30) when they release anyway when they come out brand new. Not just that, many people wont care nor will they be price senitive that much to this particular movie.

With that being said, sony isnt necessarily using a "charge whatever/higher price" strategy for this...yes they do know it will sell regardless, but personally, im pretty content with the pricing. They are not being outlandish in the pricing. $50 for just spiderman 3 itself - yeah perhaps THAT is outlandish. Im specifically talking about the trilogy....

Yes i will buy it the day it comes out, and i am one of those people that is a very savy shopper makign sure i pay much less than the market for electronics and movies...lol (no i dont steal or buy gray market junk)...

but for a movie like this, i know many people really wont care to dish out $100. Comparing MI trilogy and POTC trilogy and trilogy, and given the choice of spending $100 to buy one of the three trilogies, i would immediately in a heartbeat say id be willing to spend $100 for spiderman than the other two, hands down.

just my two cents.

I bet we see these two items on amazon and the online retailers for much cheaper then what we are seeing...

This is MSRP's that we are seeing.

I bet the special edition of SM3 on bluray will be like 29.99 on amazon, and I am willing to bet the box set will be somewhere around 69.99 or so.

The pricing issue I see here is getting people on board with Blu-ray to begin with. I mean, this is really the movie to pull people into the format. This what we have been waiting for to kill off HD-DUD. Even at Target pricing that's roughly $100 for Spidey Boxset PLUS $450 for an S300. With tax that's nearly $600 just to get out the door. Oh, don't forget the cables too.

Dear TARGET: you gotta make this a bundle package with some really aggressive pricing if you want this to move.

I'm a little concerned the steep pricing on this could have some unhappy side effects.

About Spider-Man(TM) 3
Columbia Pictures' Spider-Man(TM) 3 reunites the cast and filmmakers from the first two blockbuster adventures for a web of excitement that transports worldwide audiences to thrilling new heights.

In Spider-Man(TM) 3, based on the legendary Marvel Comics series, Peter Parker has finally managed to strike a balance between his devotion to M.J. and his duties as a superhero. But there is a storm brewing on the horizon. When his Spider-Man suit suddenly changes, turning jet-black and enhancing his powers, it transforms Peter as well. Under the influence of the suit, Peter becomes prideful and overconfident and he begins to neglect the ones he cares about the most. As two of the most-feared villains yet, Sandman and Venom, gather unparalleled power and a thirst for retribution, Peter's greatest battle is the one within himself. Spider-Man will need to rediscover the compassion that makes him who he is: a hero.

Hmm...Sony's first Dolby TrueHD title....some of us can expect firmware upgrades to make our Sony players (PS3, BDP-S300, BDP-S1) pass such a signal, right????

Well I don't have the set or the seperates so I checked the review sites. 4-disc box set and 1 disc for M:I and M:I-2. M:I 3 has 2 discs. So a wash.

SPHE has been releasing Dolby TrueHD titles for a while now. Ghost Rider is one and so is the Fifth Element Remastered.

So long as the player has HDMI 1.3 the main hurdle can be overcame.

I also believe the A-man is borderline unethical the way he manipulates his crowd of mental-midget supporters over at AVMS. Then they go off spouting A-man's agenda blindly, not even knowing they've been used.

I don't dislike HD DVD per se (though I do not think it is a technology earmarked to last for the next 10 years), I just dislike it's vocal supporters who continue to argue in the face of overwhelming evidence against them. The entire industry EXCEPT a few companies is on board Blu-Ray. There is no way HD DVD can win; to vehemently argue otherwise is folly. Plain & simple.

I noticed that Amir replies as if he is a nice guy but sneaks in speculation and below the belt punches here and there. I imagine some miss it because they are too busy enjoying the Koolaid. These reasons alone are why I take his comments with a grain of salt.

Cool

Maybe they intentionally jacked the price of Spidey 3 to 50$ so the box set at 100$ looks more appealing and they push more of those. I for one will be buying all three, seems to make more sense.

yep, straight shooters with no BS. And it is much appreciated. As far as Penton goes, I actually saw some of his posts over at AVMS BEFORE they were deleted by mods. Interesting truly "inside" stuff that, evidently, the folks who run AVMS either cannot handle or cannot allow due to other "arrangements". What's funny is that when that type of censorship happens, you know Penton has hit a nerve and provided stuff we can get nowhere else. Some AVMS'ers are content (or just naive) with having the wool pulled over them by people like A-man, but most educated people know better and just love to see people squirm when the truth gets out.

Yepp. You can look at the inside thread over there today, his last few posts are all again the same stuff. Answer a question thats not necessarily for you, add your speculation and bash the other a little.

I find it funny that he says Toshiba will not be like other CE companies and discontinue older model support. Yeah right.

Someone needs to ask him why 300 wont play on some 360 addons and A1's

The press release mentions that the trilogy set will be a "three-pack" release. Does this mean the movies will all come in their own seperate box?

The press release also mentions truehd & pcm for the DVD editions, perhaps when they correct that they can quietly adjust the SM3 bd list price as well.
