since they both have the identical soundtrack and the blu ray can be up converted...it's a pass. It's a favorite movie of mine but the 4K disc doesn't improve in some scenes, in fact looks bad on that video.

Is the bluray packaged with the 4K version a new remastered disc or the same old 2009 one?

Is there a way that people can stop asking this question? The answer is no. The answer is ALWAYS no.

Do you buy a Blu-ray to get a remastered DVD???

To be fair the answer has been yes a few times, like Unforgiven and The Matrix, which is why people ask.

To be fair, it's been a handful of times (at best) after hundreds of releases.

And the question still stands - do you buy a blu-ray to see if the dvd it's remastered?

I always want to know whether the Studios made the effort in properly mastering and authoring new Blu-rays for catalog titles that have received new high quality scans.

On the fly HDR-SDR conversion is still not good enough for SDR displays and a properly mastered conversion will have better results. Never mind most displays in the wild are still SDR it is beneficial to have nice 1080p transfer updates.

Even though I am purchasing various UHD releases my home display is not HDR and despite my Oppo's best efforts it still cannot provide a perfect down conversion for my VT60.

The question deserves to be asked every time with each catalog title update and is more important than endless queries about slipcovers. No offense slipcover fans.

I'm sure it drives people nuts when it's asked a whole bunch of times. People may not have read the entire thread to get the answer. Perhaps it would be best to have that info available in the original post for each 4k release so people can just go there to find out. Let's put it on the OP!

Uh, it's pretty simple: I don't have a 4K TV but I plan on getting one within the next year. I *do* have the existing blu-ray of this movie--a movie I'm a great fan of but whose existing bluray is rather lackluster.

If the packaged blu-ray in this new release is from a new 4K transfer, then I would be *thrilled* to order the 4K version right now so that I could watch the new print even via regular ol' bluray.

But if it's simply packaged with the lackluster bluray I already own + a 4K disc I can't watch for months, then I'm *less* inclined to get on Amazon and order it right now.

Does that clear up my totally wild and ludicrous situation for you?

Not a good comparison. Many home theater enthusiast moved passed DVD and went to bluray. Nobody really cared about DVD's anymore.

There's a reason why people want updated blurays. The majority of folks are still buying them and the quality is still beyond acceptable. Everyone doesn't have a 4K TV yet either.

Watching this new and my god it looks beautiful. Like Predator and Die Hard - rich, deep, full, robust, textured. It leaves the old BD in the dust. Not even close.

Happy I didn’t shell out 50 for this one. Remaster looks worth it around 20.

I'm gonna need that standalone with original red cover art. My bluray has those awful faces they put on the front of the UHD art too. At least they are better stamped on that thing. But I think I am in for just Hunt, Games, and Danger. Not even sure I want all three, but the other two can go away.

If it were still 2006 and I was still waiting for the format war to end to jump into HD discs you can damn well bet I'd be interested in whether a remastered BD came with a remastered DVD as well. Since some UHD releases have indeed come with a remastered BD then it makes sense people would wonder if others do. I'm not sure what's so complicated here.

The constant asking can get annoying, but that's more about people not reading the threads than it is the question ever being asked at all.

That’s not the question though, and not the same thing and you know it. Most people aren’t upgrading to 4k but would still like the blu remastered. You of course know this and understand it, so pretending you don’t is funny.

Nothing much to add here; pretty much agree with those who think THfRO is lookin good on UHD, checked it out in DV on the 930e and didn't notice any major pq anomalies but wasn't watching closely for any.

Want some Crimson Tide on UHD now but Disney catalog so probably never.
