Default is blu-ray advertised enough

was in my local blockbuster looking at bluray rentals when a little boy asked his dad why the dvds had blu cases to wich is dad promptly replied i dont know. i have seen this happen a few times now why isnt this new and great technology being pushed into the mainstream public i cant help but feel its fading into the back ground . is this the case in other countries or just the uk .

I think that it could be pushed a lot more than what it is!

I agree.

You can never have too much advertising.

I think the BDA needs to put out on TV, radio and print the difference between BD and DVD.

Show people how much more value it is to buy BD instead of DVD. Maybe explain to people how they can get the full potential of their HDTV by buying BD. (Explain how DVD is a dead technology.)

Another thing, maybe bring the BOGO's back. Doing a BOGO every now and then will cause some excitement and maybe draw people in. Either that or bring back the 5 free BD's when you purchase a BD player.

They should have more ads on TV and stop bothering with ads inside the box or on the box like Sonys "Experience High Definition" on the bottom of the box. And they must get people to spell Blu-ray correctly with no 'e' or is will slow it down.

Most any Blockbuster I've been in has a kiosk with the PS3 and a Sony Bravia that can't be missed advertising BD. Maybe it will take time where you are at.

Some advertisement on TV but we must remember this is still a niche.

Believe it or not, in 2000 in my city, in the big rental place, people were still renting DVD and trying to put them into their CD Player or VHS... and i'am NOT JOKING THERE... I've seen that a lot back then... LOL

One last thing....

Lower the prices of the discs. For people that are price finicky, you have to show them the value/advantage of owning BD.

New Releases: 19.99 - 24.99 (Retail)
Catalog Releases: 14.99 - 19.99 (Retail)

Retail store can actually do that just like Amazon do. They are just too greedy or have a 'GOD' symdrome.

I bought SAW V in montreal for 23.99$CAD last week, was the same price as the DVD version... So it is possible..

The best thing is that most release at Futureshop (Best Buy) are 32.99$, but at Metro Video , witch is a 3 store chain in Quebec, they sell the same movies for 28.99$. IMHO Futureshop have a way bigger buying power than them but still sell them for more for no apparant reason..

Really need to lower prices in Australia. New releases here are like AUD$40-AUD$50 which in the US would be like $26-$32

I hardly see any blu-ray advertising on tv...they should defenetly keep pushing the envelope with commercials the way they were doing during the format war....
on a side note my local mom and pops video store started with a very small limited selection of blu rays....everytime i rent one they have to ask, do you have a blu-ray player?
so thats a sign that blu-ray is getting adopted slowly...anyone else have some sort of thing happening in your neihborhood?

Where I live BD is becoming more and more visible. A lot of the major B&M's have really increased their floorspace for the BD format and I think that's going to increase over time.

I agree that the BDA, the studios and the manufacturers need to step up to the plate more vigorously, but remember...this is a Blu-ray forum and nothing they do will be quick enough for us.

Gaming is a much bigger category than BD for now and this is where I've seen the concentration of space allocation expand even more. B&M's too love the gaming category, because the add-on potential for peripherals is huge.

That's the key. The players are selling, but in order to facilitate the adoption of the format, you need affordable media.

The average Joe isn't going to pay 29.99 and up for a movie that he can buy on DVD for 15.99. Let's be honest with ourselves.

That's why we need to bring the prices down.

Exactly, and I would never pay 30 dollars for a single disc unless it was exclusive...like I did with the Bond steelbooks.

i think your right.its easy to say there not promoting bd enough.
remember we have owned bd for going on 3 years and we were aware of it before launch.
a lot of people out there are just not into electronics, and know noting about hdtv's.its not just blu-ray.thats not the bda's fault.
those same people may be aware of something else there into, that we don't have a clue about.
i think the bda knows what its doing and are aware of this market of people who don't have a clue.
these are same people who knew noting about dvd.
i think bd is being promoted just fine.in fact they have a big spot during the superbowl!
