Default Gotta be careful about movie talk.

My partners and I were having a casual conversation about movies a while back. The topic was comedies. I mentioned that one of the funniest movies I ever was was My Cousin Vinnie. Well, one of my partners, who happens to be very conservative, rented that and watched it with his wife and daughter. He never said anything to me, but he mentioned to a different partner about how many F-bombs he counted during the movie. My Bad!

Personally, I don't notice F-bombs. They've pretty much been part of my regular vocabulary since I was about six years old. To me, it's just a word and not a particularly strong one. It's hard sometimes to remember that for some it is one of the really bad words. I only know of two really bad words.

Something similar happened to me last night. My mother-in-law was over, and wanted to watch a movie. I hadn't seen it in about a year, so I suggested American Psycho. Well I apparently forgot how vulgar some of the scenes were, oops!

Luckily she is cool about, but I was pretty embarrassed about my recommendation for the night, especially during Sussudio!

I know that a lot of people from the LDS church do not watch R-rated movies. So if you know any Mormons, take it easy on the movie recommendations.

yep, I have 2 very good friends who are mormons who won't watch any R-rated movies even if I tell them it shouldn't have been a R. and when I recommend a movie to them I remember to mention things I remember in it that they might not appreciate like butt shots have become popular in pg-13 movies and the cursing they do in movies. One of them even gets flustered if i describe something that happened in a R-rated movie it if was a particularly R-rated scene.

Recommending movies is always a tricky business if you do not know the tastes and attitudes of your audience. I simply stopped recommending horror movies to other people because I found out most people are simply not horror fans except for a two week period in October.

Yes, indeed! You can not even assume that if they like one recommendation that they will like another.

I have a secretary in my department who is a horror movie fan. We trade recommendations frequently, but our tastes in horror movies differ. But I am at least not afraid of offending.
