43.6% from 2010s. I'm not surprised but most everyone else is considering I'm in my mid-fifties.

1980's: 29.8%

30.2% from the 1980's
20.9% from the 1990's
11.5% from the 2000's

I was born in '81, so that sounds about right. As I get older, I find that my movie purchasing seems to be driven by nostalgia more than anything else.

I don't have time to look through my entire collection, but I would estimate as follows:

70's: 5%
80's: 25% (Building this up most currently)
90's: 15%
00's: 35%
10's: 20%

1920s: 0.2
1930s: 2.6
1940s: 5.8
1950s: 8.6
1960s: 13.4
1970s: 15.5
1980s: 15.1
1990s: 15.5
2000s: 16.6
2010s: 6.7

I’d say 00s is fairly appropriate since I grew up primarily in the 00s.

For my collection it always seems that 70s, 80s, and 90s are always dueling for second because they're so close to being even.

I blame the influx of so many great Indie horror movies for my high percentage of modern films (just a guess).

If you go to your Blu-ray collection and click on "Statistics," you can see breakdowns based on things like ratings, production year, genre, etc.

21.7% 90's
21.0% 80's
18.7% 2000's
16.7% 2010's
9.3% 70's

I'm surprised that the percentage is so high for the 2000's and 2010's. I think some of the reason is that that the movies are often cheap. especially stuff from the late mid to late 2000's. Especially stuff 2007-2009.

But a lot of my reasoning for collecting is the same as yours.

I have a very healthy split of 20% per decade for the 80's, 90's, 00's and 10's. The 70's come in with around 10%. I'm somewhat surprised the 70's aren't higher since I love that decade, but I guess my tendency toward "blockbusters" weighs the others higher.

My pre-70's numbers will likely go up eventually. I've focused mostly on sci-fi/fantasy and action so far, as they're the most re-watchable for me, but I do love spy stuff a lot and there's a lot of spy movies from the 30's through 60's that I want to get and haven't yet. I just bought The Lady Vanishes this week for example.
