Default Wonderland (2003)

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Wonde...Blu-ray/13880/

I love this movie! Haha it is really slimy and disturbing but great IMO. I did a search and couldn't find a thread for it. How is the PQ compared to the DVD? I am really thinking of upgrading!

I had no idea this was on BD until I saw it at Wal-Mart yesterday. From the reviews the PQ & AQ are above par. So if you liked the film, it would be well worth an upgrade. I enjoyed Wonderland and would gladly buy if the price was right.

I thought the pw and aq were excellent. Not show material but still very good.

I like this. Especially as such a big fan of the fictionalized take on Holmes in 'Boogie Nights', it was cool to see another angle to the story.

I liked the way they told the story. I will buy this if I see it around.

I recently picked up Wonderland for cheap and have to say, for anyone who likes "Boogie Nights", Wonderland is a good companion piece to have. While I knew "Boogie" was loosely based on the life and "adventures" of John Holmes, Wonderland and the included bonus feature-length film about "Johnny Wadd" tie up all the loose and/or missing pieces. In fact, P.T. Anderson darn near plagiarized some things with his movie, specifically with Holmes' film characters and word-for-word dialogue from his (Holmes') films.

Additionally, Wonderland features yet another excellent character portrayal by Val Kilmer. The guy has had a lot of hits and misses with his career, but his portrayal of Holmes ranks up there with his best such as Doc Holliday and Jim Morrison.

But the BIG surprise for me with this movie was finding out that Holmes was born and spent the early part of his life in the same town where I grew up, and was in fact delivered by my old family doctor at the local hospital. In my nearly 60 years I had never even once heard mention of it by anyone there, nor seen or read anything about it. But the bio film on Holmes shows a copy of his birth certificate, and when I saw and read it I about fell over in shock.

Recently finished re-watching Wonderland (2003), starring Val Kilmer (as adult film star John Holmes), Lisa Kudrow, Kate Bosworth, Ted Levine - and others. The is an excellent film based on the true-crime grisly "Wonderland" murders in LA back in July 1981. The film does an amazing job of recreating the early 1980's era & LA locale, and the 1970's/early 1980's soundtrack is spot-on as well. Great acting & story also.

Agree completely that this is a good companion piece to watch along with Boogie Nights (1997), another great film about that era.

After re-watching the film & doing some research on the crime, it definitely looks like JH was involved in what happened. However, it's not clear to what extent. I guess we'll never know what exactly happened that day.

I haven't seen this since it first was "rentable" at Blockbuster back in the day (remember one of my friends and I waiting until it was released). Kilmer had an awesome stretch in the early 2000's between this, The Salton Sea, Spartan, etc.

I loved the way we see the murders from multiple points of view. This is a very underrated movie.

Agreed. In fact, Wonderland, The Salton Sea, and Spartan are my top #3 favorite Kilmer films. All were excellent.

Yes - that aspect made the film especially interesting. While JH made himself out to be an almost innocent victim, the David L. character (played by Dylan McDermott) painted a completely different picture of JH.

The Salton Sea is one of my favorites. That would truly be my upgrade of the year (from DVD to Blu) if it came out. If interested, in meth and Val Kilmer, he narrates the movie American Meth.
Spartan is truly underrated. Val had quite a few good films in there that I’m usually the only person who’s seen or heard of them. Mind hunters, Felon, Moscow Zero, Comanche Moon, the early 2000’s were great for him in my opinion.

I keep waiting for The Salton Sea to turn up on cable but it's kind of vanished without a trace.

Is this really region free? I already bought two titles that on here were incorrectly listed as being such, and knowing that Lionsgate only does region locked titles I want to be sure. Or is it because it's such an old title it wasn't locked yet?

Does it seem at all likely that this movie will ever be released in 4K?
