Default Upgrading Receiver - Opinions?

Hey Guys,

I just upgraded my TV to the 67'' Samsung LED DLP 1080p etc. My old one was a 1080i so when I bought my receiver I got the Yahama RX-V1600 that only passed 1080i. Now I have my new toy and I being the lazy guy I am I want to pass the signals through the receiver and not parse them out. I have a PS3, a DVD player that passes through component and a Dish Network HD Box doing HDMI. I want to run everything through the receiver upconverting everything to the one HDMI out to the TV.

I'm looking at the

Onkyo TX-SR806

But i'd be open to other options. At $670 thats at the top of my "cost area". I have the older model of the Infinity Primus P352 Floor Speaker with the C250 Center and the P152 Bookshelf with and aging RCA 300W powered SUBwoofer. I'm not overly impressed w/the sound I get and i'm almost positive that it should be better but who knows.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Paul

If you want to upgrade your subwoofer and still keep it under the budget, you can get a refurbished onkyo 606 from Accessories4less.com and add an Ed A2-300.

Is it worth the extra $200 for all the whistles and bells the 806 gives you? What would be the comparable Pioneer or Yamaha or etc for the 806? Or is the Onkyo the way to go?

Thanks

Paul

I can't talk down on Yamaha or any other brand, but I just got the Onkyo tx-sr806, and it is a BEAST......I haven't even scratched the surface of what it can do, but so far its the best I have ever owned. It will also leave room for expanding with seperate amps if you choose to in the future.

N E real differences between them and why one is better?

Choices are: 1909, 2808/9 (what's the difference bet. 2809 & 2808, it doesn't say) & 3808.

Thanks
dude you should start a new post if you are going to change the subject...

Hey Paul

I have just about the same setup as you......Sammy 67" LED DLP, PS3, HD Dish Network box, and the Onkyo 806. I'm very pleased with my Onkyo 806 and haven't encountered any issues. If you're thinking of upgrading with an amp in the future, the 806 has pre-outs to accomodate...unlike the 606.

BTW, Amazon has the 806 for $621 shipped.

Mike.

Thanks Mike! Found a 6% off Coupon for it at 6ave ... sadly the 25% off doesn't work like for that Denon. Now i'm tempted. But I love Amazon.

thanks for the recommendation. When I compare the two it looks like the Onkyo has everything and more then the Denon has ... and more power per channel. Am I missing something? Is Denon a better product like picking a Lexus over a Kia or ...

Thanks

well, I wouldn't compare it to a luxury car and a lemon.

...But yeah, Denon has always been above its competition on most levels. (regardless of manufacturer stated spec's)

Absolutely nothing wrong with an Onkyo. (I am a previous owner of Onkyo and absolutely loved them)

In a heartbeat I would recommend an Onkyo 805, but something about the 806 just doesn't impress me.

I am using an 806 right now after my girlfrieind broke my 805 I have to say at first i had a case of placebo effect because of mostly the lack of burr browns but over all I have to say I cannot really hear a difference in sound with my speakers. So far the only thing missing that I miss the most is the 806's lack of tone control for each channel but overall it is a great receiver.

It works on most Denon, Yamaha and Marantz receivers/bluray players.

Also try out CATHS35 on certain speakers!
