If I thought it'd do me any good, I'd start up a petition to get ME to direct the Nightmare on Elm St. movie.
This movie should be done by a fan, not some nitwit trying to get a paycheque. Logan |

It should be done by the people who remade Texas Chainsaw movies. If this movie is done right. It's going to turn a lot of heads. Think Silence of the Lambs. Do it serious and real like that...

Judging from all of their previous work, it seems Platinum Dunes is incapable of making a realistic (or, you know, good) horror film. |

Without Englund as Freddy, it isn't a Nightmare on Elm Street film. He was the soul of the films and still to this day, had one of the most menacing performances in the first N.O.E.S movie. I don't think there is one actor who can replace him

It, like most remakes, shouldn't even be done. Based on other remakes it has a very slim chance of being as good as the original. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes remakes are exceptions. I am skeptical about this new F13, but I'm sure it will be a hit with all the kids.

Except for "The Ring" I have not seen a single horror remake this new century thus far that has either met or improved upon the originals' quality (at least when it has come to actually-decent or better original movies, of course). Remakes are of course nothing new as stories have been retold or re-modeled as early as man discovered how to weave a tale around a campfire, but the utter lack of quality when it comes to the majority of these redos in the horror genre of recent years is awful. Of course, the main reason these get the greenlight in the first place is because they are generally less risky and more moneymaking-guaranteed than original or new material. If audiences showed up for the original, odds are they will most likely show up for the latest incarnation. Last edited by J_UNTITLED; 01-31-2009 at 04:11 PM. |

With the Ring, you had the slightly off, partially psychic kid. Hey, thanks for ripping off The Shining. Maybe The Shining ripped off someone else, but it doesn't really matter. Then sitting around half the movie to see the "terrifying" contents of the videotape, and then when its finally revealed...what, that's it? Or the overly drawn out search for the origin of the tape. And the TCM remake. That crap had ever cliche the original Scream made fun of. Stupid people doing stupid things. Over and over again. She knocks down Leatherface and what does she do? Run off? What? No, you take him out permanently. I mean he's just killed your best friends. Of course, it's ridiculous how he could even start the chainsaw after that sequence considering he could only use one arm (okay, actually it's impossible). I hope nobody involved in those crap-fests is attached to a Nightmare remake. If anyone is going to remake that movie, it should be Craven himself. |

Thank you. Quote:
While it does have a somewhat-better videotape and there is something to be said for how the originals' climax was done, in my opinion "Ringu" is ultimately inferior to "The Ring" due to its increasingly-cheesy psychic angle (which is more or less removed in the remake), soap-opera-esque score and an overall less-engrossing setup. Also, I fail to see how "The Ring" really rips of "The Shining" in any way, shape or form other than the mere surface-fact that both feature increasingly-troubled kids. Agree to disagree (although pretty much agreed on 2003's "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"). |

Agreed to disagree (on the first one, that is as "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" was not a remake... the second is even worse than the remake, though). |
