I think those other remakes are a little insignificant. This isn't the same as other horror series. It was a starring vehicle with under tones of female empowerment. Not to mention the crazy dream sequences.

To me it's pretty unique and has more problems being done well than most horror remakes.

With the Ring, you had the slightly off, partially psychic kid. Hey, thanks for ripping off The Shining. Maybe The Shining ripped off someone else, but it doesn't really matter. Then sitting around half the movie to see the "terrifying" contents of the videotape, and then when its finally revealed...what, that's it? Or the overly drawn out search for the origin of the tape.

And the TCM remake. That crap had ever cliche the original Scream made fun of. Stupid people doing stupid things. Over and over again. She knocks down Leatherface and what does she do? Run off? What? No, you take him out permanently. I mean he's just killed your best friends. Of course, it's ridiculous how he could even start the chainsaw after that sequence considering he could only use one arm (okay, actually it's impossible).

I hope nobody involved in those crap-fests is attached to a Nightmare remake. If anyone is going to remake that movie, it should be Craven himself.
do yourself a BIG favor and rent the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It is by far the scariest movie I have ever seen. MUCH, and I can't stress this enough, MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the remake that you saw. The look and feel of the movie just give it such a "real" vibe. Almost like you are watching a documentary. I absolutely LOVE the original TCM!

Also, the new Friday the 13th movie is actually quite good. It isn't as campy as the 45 other ones though. It goes more for horror and NOT comedy like the original franchise sort of took to around parts FIVE, SIX, and SEVEN

Okay, first off there is only ONE original. You said ORIGINALS. Throw out TCM2 and whatever other nonsense followed. And if you seriously think the original TCM is corny then I don't know what you are looking for in a horror film?!?
Oh yeah, and I hope you enjoyed getting ripped off when you purchased your $10 ticket to see The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. What a bunch of bullcrock that was. Beginning??? How about, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Same EXACT Movie As the Other One You Saw Only A Few Years Earlier

You kiddies do know that the director (Marcus Nispel) of the new Friday The 13th remake is the same director as the Texas Chainsaw remake right? Just thought I'd let you know since several of you hate the Texas remake but are looking forward to F13th. LOL.

what does that have to do with anything? I LOVED Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List but HATED Hook and A.I. Those movies were also done by the same director.....

The scariest movie you have ever seen? The original came out in 1974 when I was 4 years old and I grew up hearing that it was sooooooo scary. I never got the chance to see it until it was released on VHS when I was around 17 or 18 and after having grown up watching Halloween, F13, Nightmare on Elm Street and the mother of all horror movies, The Exorcist I was sadly disappointed when I finally saw TCM for the first time. It wasn't until I saw it a couple of years ago, after having watched the remake that I was able to appreciate it for what it is. A low budget independent film by a (then) up and coming director, Tobe Hooper. I can now say it's a descent movie and a classic horror film, but IMO, I certainly would not say it was even remotely scary. The remake took the same basic plot and took it up a level without changing anything major like say, who the killer is, which is what the new F13 does which is what really upsets me about this remake. Just where is Mrs. Voorhes? I said it in another thread and I'll say it again, this is really going to screw up the beginning of Scream now.

I just don't understand why you would stop seeing horror movies back in 91 yet see a crappy remake of a crappy movie.

+1

I used to jump on my bed a bunch to kill Freddy Krueger before I went to sleep. I'm pretty sure I was serious about it too....

That's what you get when your older brother shows you all of the Nightmare on Elm Streets before you are 7.

Im sick to the teeth of remakes!! wake up Hollywood and just leave them alone and why remake either Freddy or Fri 13th is beyond me.

If you love Horror and brought up on these movies as a kid, lets have new directors with new and fresh ideas instead.

because the ring wasn't crappy. not to me. to you maybe, but again not to me. horror films today are nothing more than big gore fests for sadomasochists. horror films used to scare you without showing you a whole lot. they used to be better.

Well, to be fair, gory horror films have been around almost as long as the 'less-is-more' variety. It ultimately is just about what any particular person responds to or is affected by the most.

Exactly. When I think of classics, I think of TCM, Maniac, Friday the 13th, Suspiria, Twitch of the Death Nerve, Romero's Deads, Hellraiser. They may not all be over the top gore fests, but they all have their fair share of blood and guts. I also think that any person that says current horror movies suck and only old ones are good really need to open their eyes because they either are only seeing the PG13 crap, or they just WANT to hate modern horror movies. It's the same now as it was then, for every 4 or 5 good ones that come out in a year, there's thousands of horrible ones. If you can't find a few good horror movies for every year of the last 10 or 15 years, you obviously haven't been looking. Of course there's always going to be the people that say "Nothing will ever be as scary as when NotLD or The Shining came out" because it was the first horror movie to scare them, and they were 16, and have since grown up and become a bit desensitized to horror.

He is writing and producing. I believe the guy that directed Martyrs is directing.

Clive Barker is a horror genius. I would gladly pay ten bucks to see anything he attaches his name to

F13 is NOT a remake! It's a Reboot that cover the events of 1-4 and adds more on to it.
