Default Interesting Poll on CNET.com

CNET is performing a Poll about HDDVD/BR & DVD,

Which DVD format will rule your living room?

http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6463_7-...html?tag=prmo1

At this time,

24.87% people stating that Blu Ray will win their living room

15% say HDDVD will

6% are waiting for more hardware from both

and

53% are waiting for a winner to be decided and will stick with DVD until then.

Interesting results so far, especially considering how everyone claims HDDVD is "winning"

Most of that %53 are lying. Everyone thinks they'll have the gumption to wait it out but as soon as the players hit $299 and lower many will fall.

Everyone has a price.

Once my TV is purchased next year I'm feeding it with as much HD content as I can. Consumers love movies and when you get a new HDTV toy you have to purchase the accessories.

That poll doesn't really surprise me since we're strictly in early adopter phase and will be for years to come.

Those numbers reflect that the masses aren't really interested or even fully aware of what's going on yet.

What was the sample base/number of people for that poll?

Also, Cnet is a source that one must take with a grain of salt at times. I wouldn't hang my hat on them solely one way or the other.

Yup, only people who will buy a hidef DVD playback system in the short term are the guys who bought Laserdisc. It's all about the PS3.

this Poll IMO really shows the power of advertising/education.
HDDVD has been out some time, and aside from ads on HD Channels (and if you blink you'll miss it) it's really not well seen.
Blu Ray on the other hand has been on every side bar screen on tech sites i visit and they are putting out the Also available on Blu Ray disc saying/logo on commercials for new releases (like ultra violet/underworld evo) but still nowhere near enough

Both groups, HDDVD & Blu Ray are in a serious uphill battle against the old battle axe DVD. She isn't going anywhere yet, she has EVERYONE backing her and even the movie studio's aren't going to back away from that cash cow anytime soon. I believe HD optical formats will sit side by side with DVD for a minimum of 5 -7 more years. Sad...but my fealing.

agreed for the most part with jtk. at least most are saying they're waiting for a clear cut winner. however, i think this poll would be more accurate with a "no idea about either format" selection. that way we can differentiate between who knows what they're talking about, who is "in the game," and who is "on the sidelines."

With hybrid HD DVD/DVD or Blu Ray/DVD formats, I believe DVD will never die.

I can still do down my local rental place and get the latest movie hits on VHS...

I think most movie studios have stopped making VHS versions of the latest movies.

I'll tell you this much: If I couldn't have bought my BRD player from Abt (which stands behinds what they sell even a year or two out), I'd still likely be on the sidelines.

Exactly, Oh, did people know that Laser Disc were very popular in Asia? Americans and Eroupeans were still using VHS, while Asia was about Laser Discs and VCDs. VCDs and SVCDs were a viable comerical movie format in Asia, where they were non exsistant in western countries untill DVD players with suport for home brewed VCDs and SVCDs hit the market. VCDs replaced Laser Disc as primary Video Format in Asia untill DVD came out. Laser Disc however failed to make a dent in the VHS dominated western market of the late 80's and early 90's.

Laser Disc failed in the west, because the size of the disk reminded people of LPs, and people were not too keen on laser technology. People thought of only tapes when they think of movies.

CD music however was becoming popular because of size and sound quality, yet I remember seeing technicaly inept people shouving unprotected CDs into pockets, pants, heck have seen CDs in those days bound unprotected in haphazard stacks with a rubber band. The discs were in horrible shape, playing on a player that was not that bad, but have seen better days. Yet they smack the player wondering way i would not play. I didn't think these cavemen like people knew what a laser was. These were the gangsta minded kids I saw at the bus stop, who are adults now. I magine them with Blu-Ray or HD-DVD? They's probably will just be associating it to games like Madden and Halo. LOL

VHS will be dead in another couple years maxium simply because less and less people are watching commercial releases on the format.
