Thumbs up ID4 looked fantastic!

Not sure where did I hear this from, but I was told Independence Day on Blu-ray looked like an upconverted DVD. Never in a million years!

Having the title on my self for a long time, I managed to slip it in my movie schedule and gave it a go last night, already thinking that the disc was going to look "upconverted" from DVD quality, because someone told me and I gave in into that persons critique, let me tell you that whomever said that to me, its completely wrong! I was "awed" by the PQ on the disc, sure it shows its age and in darker scenes detail does not pop or impresses, but daytime scenes just look breathtaking. Surely the best edition of the film-to-date.

I'd give it a 8.5 out of 10 in the picture department. Even so I'd go a little bit higher in rating.

Im not sure where either, I believe it was in a IMDB forum (so i think) but yes still remember being told it looked upconverted. Wow no way! Thats why I rather go my way in terms of judging a BD video quality now, then just being told about it from someone elses perspective as maybe that someone does not have its TV properly calibrated. For example a lot of bad talk was giving to the Blu-ray releases of Home Alone, Carrie, and original Amityville Horror also from Fox release, and when I saw all three, I was really impressed with the overall look and presentation of them (specially Home Alone - stellar PQ) and Carrie definitely showed a lot of age in presentation but there were scenes that were mighty appetizing to look at. Same about Amityville.

Now from experience I now know not to take anyone's word for everything Blu-ray, but rather judging PQ through what my own eyes think it looks good or bad.

I thought it looked and sounded great. It was much better than my DVD copy (but, I never watched the DVD up-converted).

I agree that it looks and sounds great. It's not as good as some of the top new BD's, but it is still a good step up in both areas. I was very pleased when I watched it last month.

Good. I bought this, haven't received yet.. but it should look a little dated. It's from '97. One of those movies you could watch every day of the week.

I keep hearing ID4 is so good.
I wish to watch it but would like to see the first 3 movies before watching Id4 so i know what is happening.

Does anyone know where I can find ID1, ID2 and ID3. Will there ever be a box set for this? And I see ID4 is kind of old now and if so good a movie then where is ID5?
