Default Gang Box?

I was looking to buy some LV-1 and a LV-3 gang box. Does anyone have any websites with decent prices?

Thanks

You can get these in any home improvement store in the electrical section. They're no more than like $10 a pop for the 3 gang. The 1 gang is like $2.

I saw a closed in Lv-1 listed on Home depot but none of the open back ones. I'll stop by there tomorrow at lunch and see what they have in the store.

In the meantime any other suggestions on where to look for a decent price.

By "open back ones" I'm guessing you mean the low voltage type (they're basically just a frame). I can definitely say for sure they have them at Lowe's and Home Depot. I've bought them from both places before.

Just this past weekend I bought a pair each of 1-gang & 2-gang Carlon LV brackets @ Home Depot. Took me a while to find them among a sea of HV blue boxes, but they were there. Look for bright orange.

I don't remember seeing any 3-gang, but that doesn't mean much, as I wasn't looking for them.

If ypu would have gone to an electrical supply house you wouldn't have to violate the UL listing of that box thus violating the NEC. Not to mention the hassle of cutting the box up. You can buy 3 gang lv boxes. You kids crack me up.

Glad we could amuse you. Show me an electrical supply house in my area that's open on Sundays...or past noon on Saturdays...and I'll go there every time.

I'm all about supporting the little, local guys, but FOR ME, places like Home Depot & Lowes win out every time. It's NEVER because of pricing; always because their doors are always open when Joe Homeowner is doing projects - after 6PM on weekdays & all weekend.

i didnt have the time......you dont violate anything as long as its low voltage wires.......put the box in a vice cut with a saw zaw total of 2 min. +$2 for a box.......not to much hassle if you ask me.

Actually there is a UL violation. Which in turn becomes a NEC violation regardless of the voltage level. NEC article 110.3(B) That's the difference between me and everyone here, I have to follow the NEC and any other applicable regs to the letter of the law when I work.

Are you a licensed electrician in CA or a HT installer? Inspectors very rarely know the LV portion of the code. But articles 720 through 727 cover LV installs for everything from signaling ckts to audio/video systems.

So is it going to burn his house down? And why? Other than the fact it may violate some code in a book, what's the real-world problem with what he did?
