Default Audio / Video delay - Lip Sync

Hi does anyone have a test pattern to help set the right audio delay to correct lip sync issues, ive tried doing it during movie playback but i just can't get it right. I know there are test patterns that can help with this and ive tried googling it but i can't find any.

If anyone has any could you post/link to them or if you know where i can download some that can be burnt onto DVD/CD for use in my blu-ray player it would be most helpful.

Cheers,

Villain2100

Come on guys any help would be appreciated.

I know these patterns are on the DVE blu-ray discs, but i'm finding it hard to get one, play.com say 2 weeks for dispatch, amazon.co.uk (according to feedback) seem to be sending out region A discs, and ive have tried looking on ebay but there is only one UK seller and he dosn't look reliable.

And i do only really want the A/V sync pattern anyway.

I occasionally get some lypsinc issues on my bd player, I just stop, play, and get going again, but it's aggravating.

I have this feature available on my Denon, but I don't have it activated, and have never had an issue with video/audio sync up. I'm really not sure why some people have issues with it, and some don't. I would guess it mainly has to do with your receiver. I would ask if this is happening with blurays, or SD-DVD upconverted, and is your receiver doing the upconverting. I would guess there may be issues with that. If your receiver is simply passing though the video, I don't see why there would be a lag. Test it between video discs as I mentioned. Let us know what you come up with. Double check your receiver options, and let us know about that too.

Hi to answer your questions, i notice lip sync problems with every source Blu-ray (both BDs and DVDs that the player upconverts), xbox 360, and TVIX media player, sometimes its more noticeable than others. The receiver is set to pass through and doing no scaling of any kind as all the sources output 1080p.

will what I did is just rising the volume of both the HT system and the TV and if you notes any delay between them then adjust it till you get rid of this delay but notes that the sound that u get from the TV is the right one . It really matters if you play something that needs timing and synchronization like rock band or guitar hero. Anyways this is a simple way that I came up with and worked fine with me.

Unfortunately it seems to be an Onkyo problem, at least it was with the 05 series.

You can always rent Guitar Heroes there's a Delay Calibration Option in the game that tell's you you're delay. I know that mine with Frame Creation ON it's 120ms, so i've put my Audio Delay to 120 and it's perfect. It greatly vary from display to display..

Well i can't do the trick with the tv speakers as im using a projector else they would be handy.

Ive decided to order a DVE disc from play.com and see if that helps with syncing the audio, if not i'll probably use this as an excuse to upgrade my amp probably to one of the new yamaha's.

you know, your receiver could just be calibrated all funny. Try setting it up again and maybe the delays will set correctly. I would still love to resolve why some people see this problem and others don't.

I have re-calibrated a few times thinking it might be that also, but its never got it right.

As to why some get this issue and others don't it could be a couple of reasons i.e. There is a massive number of different combinations of equipment and some might work better with each other than others, also some people have a higher tolerance to lip sync errors and might not notice it.

Managed to borrow a copy of guitar hero and according to the calibration bit my lag is 0ms, which is a bit weird, not sure how accurate it is then.

Noticed same problem with mine while watching ID4 on the scene where they are testing the virus on the spaceship and they shoot the coke can, I noticed the gunshot went off before he pressed the trigger, since then I noticed the sound was slightly ahead of the picture, since then it bothered me. I have a samsung series 6 LCD and a 5 year old non-HDMI receiver. Played around with the delay setting on my receiver and found out that turning up the sound on both the TV speakers and the surround system it created a slight echo. I simply adjusted the delay till the audio on both didnt create so much of a echo. Final setting for me ended up being 52ms delay.

I really think this is the answer to your problem. You should be able to modify the delay settings for each input (HDMI). I found that I had to adjust the delay setting differently for both my PS3 and my satellite receiver. Try the adjustments on page 77 of your owner's manual.
