OK... I recently noticed that the lip sync is off on some of my content.
I tried watching the Wild Bunch and the sync was bad. I figured it was the disc, but it played fine when it was tried on a BD-300 straight to my Samsung 40b550. When it played thorough my bd-n460 and my receiver, that's when the sync is off. I also noticed it on Star Trek TOS. What could be causing this? The Blu-Ray player or the receiver? Thanks! |

The sync issue is almost 99% of the time related to the processing done by your receiver. Which is why most receivers have lip-sync adjusters. Does your receiver have any settings for adjusting lip-sync? On my Onkyo 705 its called A/V Sync Adjustment or Lip Sync.
From the AVSForums "My advice is start at 0ms and work your way up 1 step upward at a time. Really analyze at every single step! Typically most things seem to sync up nice in the range of 0-80ms. Just be sure to play around with the entire delay range before giving up. If it doesn't work near 0ms you may need to jump it way higher. NOTE: YOU WILL NEVER get the delay 100% perfect, you are only going to get it 99.9% of the way there! Be aware of this fact! You can easily blow past the "sweetspot" since you can never nail the delay perfectly. This is why you REALLY have to take your time! Really pay attention if the voice is ahead of the lips moving OR if the lips moving is ahead of the voice, this is a very fine line that can be hard to spot. If you are very patient and watchful, you will actually notice the point when the voice and lip movement reverse delay roles (1 before the other) in the opposite direction. THIS is when you want to keep that setting at that very point, cause its as close as you are going to get it. Trust me when you are done with A/V syncing all your equipment you will hardly notice lag like you are at the moment of doing these finite tests." Last edited by tilallr1; 02-12-2010 at 12:36 PM. |

As already mentioned, these types of problems are caused 99%+ of the time by different audio/video processing through an AVR. |

Well first off, make sure whichever receiver you use has a lip-sync feature or what not. If it doesn't, its not worth swapping out. Another thing you can try however, is turning off any processing the receiver is doing. Try switching the receiver into DIRECT or PURE sound mode. Another trick which might work is to see if you can get your Blu-ray player to do a bit of the processing. Send out the sound PCM. If that doesn't help try BITSTREAM. Its sort of trial and error, but your best bet to fix this is to have a receiver which can compensate for this problem. One with the lip-syncing feature.

Then something else is wrong. Can you try turning off as much processing as possible on your receiver and see if there is any difference. Like I said set the receiver to PURE or DIRECT and see if the problem diminishes. Unfortunately, if the problem suddenly appeared, it could simply be that you never noticed it before and it was always there. Now that you've seen it, you can't stop seeing it. I know that's how it was for me. Even though mine is near perfect I still look for it. LOL.

What if you don't have a receiver and just using a single HDMI cable connected from a (fat) PS3 directly into an HDTV? I understand it's not a good setup, but I don't have the room for a receiver unfortunately, for the time being. Also can't afford one as of now either. But not only am I noticing a little lip-sync, but I notice colors being off, with none of the settings seeming to be able to fix the problem, and the picture just does not seem to impress on blu-rays and PS3 games (yes, all of 'em). Though it seems to get better when the equipment is used for a long period of time and/or when the equipment is allowed to warm up (which is probably a good thing anyway). But it still doesn't seem top-notched, which I'm thinking it must be my HDMI cable. I don't even know what category it is or version, but I think it's a Philips, and I recently ordered a Mediabridge cable that is category 2 and version 1.3 certified, which I still have to wait for it to come in the mail. Though I have changed a particular setting on my PS3 and it seemed to make the lip-sync issue a little better, but I can't help but think there is still a little lip-syncing, unless it's just me.
Thought I'd post here instead of creating a new thread. ![]() Last edited by paul_66; 02-14-2010 at 12:42 AM. |

I wouldn’t say it’s lip-sync I’d say the sound is just being purely delayed by many milliseconds.
I get this when sometimes playing a DVD in the Phillips BDP3000 on the regular CRT widescreen TV. I then just take the DVD and play it though the Pioneer DV-525 no problem. Bluary is in sync when playing on the Phillips BDP3000 no problem, unless I purposely set the DCX2496 delay for the fronts LCR with high very high delay setting then it would be miles out of sync. LOL |

I'm very frustrated about the A/V sync with The American President - and I cannot correct it because THE PICTURE IS AHEAD!! Does that mean the blu-ray mastering was botched? I'm not using a receiver - just HDMI from Panasonic DMP-BDT500 through Viera TC-P55GT50 with Energy Powerbar Elite (lightpipe out from TV). Other blu-ray disks seem fine.
