The god complex in the original was a rehash of Mormon mythology, where if they reach a certain level when they die, they ascend to a higher plane (the ship of lights). Baltar recognizes the voice of Count Iblis as the voice of the Cylon Imperious Leader, and had the show gone on (it was a top 10 show, cancelled because of ABC hubris at the time that all their shows were genius and whatever show they replaced it with would be cheaper and higher rated), it would have been revealed that Iblis had guided the evolution of the Cylon race to do battle with the worlds the Ship of Lights was protecting (yes, before Babylon 5)

Instead of taking the Terminator rehash that Moore did, the original was...mostly original

The Furlings (yes people, guess where Stargate got the name) were a neighboring race that the Colonies had a mutual defense pact with, and when the Cylons attacked them it set off the thousand year war.

If you look at it, what Ron Moore wanted to remake was Space Above and Beyond. The only real difference between the Silicates and the Cylons is the fanatical god complex and the gambling .The rest of the story is identical. Even the ship designs, MAJORLY similar on the alien side. They even had their "Chiggy von richtovan" episode that was remarkably similar to "Scar", the pointless ground missions involving highly trained pilots instead of Marines....

Ironically, a huge percentage of the SAAB FX team cut their teeth on the real Galactica.

And those planet episodes, always such time wasters, it's like they know what's going on upstairs isn't as interesting when they can't afford fighter combat this week.

And how about the score? The stupid jungle drums instead of Stu Phillips' rousing orchestral work. He re-recorded it with the Royal Scottish Philharmonic a few years back, check it out, it's better than the original.
Sorry, I was talking about the new BSG,

The NEW BSG, There's a total lack of background. No explanation as to how the Cylons came to be, why they attacked, what sort of civilization the humans have, their level of technology, their culture, etc. There were whole episodes about a Presidential election. (Can't I just watch The West Wing for politics?) There is a running ridiculous theme about the Cylons and God, but of course, this is never explained.

I have no problems with the original.

No, they did explain that. It was SAAB. "The machines we made to serve us turned against us, fought a war, and took off to the far reaches of the stars, only to return later to kick our asses"

I wasn't attacking what you were saying, more augmenting it

Default For me, I will pick Battlestar

Battlestar is far and away the better of the two for me, as I cannot stand the Pirate movies. Fortunately, I am neutral convention, so I may take HD up on the Battlestar collection.

Personally, I would not rank BSG above B5. It is good, but not that good. However, based upon information from Deci a while back it is extremely unlikely we'll see a B5 HD version any time soon.

With regard to the OP, I believe PotC:AWE will definitely outsell BSG. The audience for PotC:AWE is probably a factor of 10 or more larger.

AND, given current trends in PQ PotC:AWE will likely be an impressive transfer while BSG may easily be disappointing.

And DS9 above B5 (start the second war! ), because it had more than 2 characters that were actually developed and not infinitely replaceable.

Gotta remember that most of the people who own HD equipment are clued in Battlestar. While Pirates 3 might sell best on DVD, I wouldnt be surprised to see BSG give it a run in HD, well maybe if it was on both blu and HDdvd.

But seeing as its HDdvd only right now I'm not sure.

DS9 had one of the best closing episodes ever. However, even given that, I'd still give the nod to B5 overall. If funding had been certain for the fifth year, I'm certain the final few episodes of year four and several in year five would have been much better still.

Exactly, it's simple math

What will basically be a 3-1 market share, and at least a 10-1 installed base by the time it comes out, plus the fact the the price is less than 1/4 to the power of 10 more sales.

LOOOOL!!

Battlestar against POTC3 ???? WTF is going on in somebodys mind?

There is NO question at all who will sell more discs.
Its like, "who will win blu-ray or HD DVD" also NO question at all anymore

How can 1 of the most succesfull movies of all time, get beaten by a tv-series? Not to mention, batlestar is not one of the biggest tv-series or whatever, its NOTHING. it wont even break planet earht numbers.

useless thread.

POTC will outsell battlecrap 50:1...AT LEAST!

Did you notice Matrix went against Pirates 1 and 2? Anyone think that was a conincidence anymore?

Universal is simply running out of big titles to distract their customer base with.

The forth year with the whole LOTR ripoff (he named the guy Lorien, I think any doubt what he was going for is gone right there), the senseless "Doctor on Drugs" ark that had zero effect on the character past the culmination episode (or was that season 3), thefact that they just dropped Sheriden right into the Sinclair role with only some minor tweaking.

All the human characters were completely interchangeable except maybe Garabaldi. It was Londo and G'Kar that were the heart of the show

DS9 had about 2 dozen characters that showed up on a regular basis, fully developed. Some could argue that Morn had more character development than some B5 regulars, because they used the rest of the cast to tell you about him

Personally, I like B5 more than DS9. I've recently watch both, DS9 had a very good closing, I think B5 would have had a better closing if they knew they would be returning for Season 5. Since I had recently watch B5, I would say there were more than just two characters that were actually developed. I also think it had a better story.

Pirates 1-3 are all in the top 10. badabing badaboom bettyboop.
I don't know where you're getting your information from, but right now, domestically, there is only on pirates in the top 20, and worldwide, two in the top 10. I'm not saying that's bad, but y'know, check your stuff. But yeah, to think BSG is going to be pirates is ridiculous, even though I don't too much care for either one.

The only way Universal can go up against pirates is if they use this oportunity to finally convince Speilburg into releasing ANYTHING on HD....

Oops, my bad, to late!

BDA beat them to it!

I think it is hilarious that the HD DVD PRG keeps deliberately going up against Disney. Do they suppose such obvious tactics are going to win them any points with Disney?

Unfortunately, I expect this ends the chance of getting The Matrix on BD this year. Warner won't counter HD DVD like that.

Of course Warner won't counter HD DVD like that, they're pretty much HD-DVD. Yes Universal is only HD-DVD, but if you look at Top 10 HD-DVD movies sold, how many of them are Universal 1, 2 ? How many are Warner? 6 or 7? Blu-ray should focus switching Warner to Blu-ray only. HD-DVD would really be hurting then.
