Default Looking for some start up help

Hello all,
I am looking to start a buisness. I am thinking I would like to open a DVD/Blu-ray store in my hometown. For all of you who own your own shop, I was wondering if you would be open to sharing your experiences.
I am also hoping for some direction to where I look up wholesaler prices. any good sites? I have googled it, but come up with a bunch of doodie for wholesaler websites. I would like to try to estimate start up/operation costs, but so far little direction.
Any help/suggestions/thoughts would be helpful.
peace,
fg

Well no...
I would like offer movie memorabilia. Probably mostly purchases off Ebay. Eventually, I would like to span out to home theater products, but not with the current state of the economy. I want to start out slow.

but back on topic, I am not sure a "storefront" is the way to go unless you can get a rental unit cheap. Now is the perfect time to get fixtures as Circuit City is selling them off cheap. I would definitely consider buying and reselling used movies, great profit in those.

Great points to think about. I am in the brainstorming phase, so I will have to pass on Circuit City. Used DVD's is another great idea. I was thinking in the lines of store credit.

for rental u need to able to rent the movies abit cheaper than blockbuster, hollywood, familyvideo and not to cheap to get u broke
probably u know that

buying the used movies is also a great idea with instore credit only
u will get the collection and u don't loose nothing wait already mentioned

if u can open the online site and try to push the movies by mail too
people will like that idea coz if u have a good collection people will dig in (coz i know 23 people of my friends and their friends have blockbuster and netflix online accounts we all looking for none available in store )

My wife and I run a large care center with 16 staff, this is our 6th year here are a couple of things to remember.Make sure you have a good credit line(you will need it),it takes at least 5 years to establish yourself so tuff it out ,have a long term plan.If at all possible have equity, buy a building if you can.It may cost more in the beginning but your money is not going to someone else.Banks love financial plans, have an accountant do up projections for you.
There are a lot of pitfalls in business but also a lot of satisfaction. Most of all do not listen to Mr Negitive saying "It will never work" go with your gut feelings and GOOD LUCK.

discount for bluray.com members????

good point on buying fixtures from CC too if youre planning on opening a shop, make sure you can find a good location though, because im sure youve heard before: location, location, location. if you dont have a good spot, youre dead in the water
