Default Where do I start ???

Looking for a 5.1 "receiver" and I dont know where to start. If someone can point me in the right direction, I will do all the research.

What I want.
Simple simple simple with excellent sound.
The fewer bells and whistles, the better.
I dont care about AM FM, Ipod dock, Sirius/XM or listening to CDs.
$ not an issue

I will use it for one thing only....Listening to BDs. My preference is to run BD video straight to TV, and audio from BD to "receiver" with no pass thru for anything.

Is it out there?

Thanks all

But still, Im gonna agree. Onkyo 605 is the best receiver you could possibly want - and its pretty cheap price-wise.

Might wanna look in to 7.1.

Hmm...Ok...I have a question about these Onkyo 605 receivers I hear so much about. I currently have a Harman Kardon AVR 245 which I just recently found out (after re-wiring my entire system) that it does not support HDMI AUDIO switching, only video switching...I want to do 7.1...but the ps3 for whatever reason does not output 7.1 through Optical...only HDMI. So I'm stuck with 5.1 Dolby digital for now.... I want to know how Onkyo Compares to Harman Kardon? Better? Worse? So far (other than this issue) I've had a great experience with my Harman Kardon system, just want to get a little advice.

sorry, never had a harmon. ps3 doesnt support 7.1 through optical because there isnt enough bandwidth in the optical cable. its not just the ps3. 7.1 audio is only possible through hdmi or with a player thas has 7.1 analog out to go to a receiver with 7.1 analog in.

Check that out. Its not gonna be easy to find a receiver that does ONLY audio and no gadgets whatsoever. Nor would it make any sence to buy one...
Why not future-proof yourself?

Whats the budget anyway? I would REALLY consider hitting the 605.

Anyway, whatever you pick - you might wanna make it onkyo. They have the single greatest receivers out there in my opinion.

Hmm....ok...one more question...if my whole system (HTIB) is Harman Kardon (all 7.1 channels) would there be an issue if I changed out the receiver to the Onkyo? At this point I'm trying to find the cheapest fix and I'd hate to have to buy different speakers as well. Plus the Harman Kardon receiver I was going to upgrade to (AVR247) costs the same as this Onkyo 605. So I'd end up buying the onkyo if that's what you guys are recommending.

If it works like all other speakers, it will work on an onkyo receiver.

my bad, i recommended the 605 over the 705,805 because you said no gadgets. one question: why no video pass through? just curious, i do through my onkyo and LOVE IT, no problems. anyway, good luck!
