Unhappy Transporting a 50" or 58" plasma in a ford escort

So I might be finding a killer deal soon... problem is that the transportation for the television is limited to either my Ford escort or my wife's Yaris.

I know I've read everywhere not to lay down the plasmas, but renting a truck for a 40+ mile drive would make the deal kind of not-so-much of a deal.

I don't want to ruin the TV so if I can't, I can't, but is it OK to put plasmas into tiny cars in a certain way?

Also (I know this is a strange Q) anyone know if a 50" or 58" can fit into the back of a Toyota Yaris hatchback w/ the seats down? It's pretty big, but I don't know exactly where to find the dimension on either the unit OR the car "trunk"!

Thanks if you can help.

see if you can borrow a mini van or SUV. I don't think they will fit into a Yaris or Escort. I can't even get one in my full size four door car. once inside the box... that 50" TV is much bigger.

Is it boxed or not? If not look up the TV's dimensions pretty much anywhere and take a tape measure out to the car. If it is boxed usually the shipping dimensions can be found somewhere, try amazon or crutchfield or the like.

When I bought my 50 in. I had to take the Top half of the packaging off to fit inside my Pilot. So I'm sure your out of luck in the ford. Never seen the other.

Dude...why risk it? Borrow, beg....whatever. Don't lay it down or try to jam it in....no rental places close to you offer any free miles on a rental? (you know, like the first 150 or so?)

uhaul would be almost $150

and i cant rent a car

and NO ONE I know has a truck/van I can borrow

Also: I don't care if it's boxed or unboxed, but I would PREFER it being IN the box, so that there is more padding (I will already be padding the CRAP out of my back part of the car, if it will fit)

The box, flat out, will not fit. The boxes tend to be about two to three feet in depth, two feet taller than the tv, and at least a foot wider.

You can fit it out of the box, but it will have to lay on it's back with the panel up. I would suggest some kind of plastic packing sheet, usually like 1/4 inch thick, to go on top of the screen to prevent it from being scratched by whatever padding you use.

As for after you've transported the item, you should let it sit for a little while, at least an hour if not two, in it's upright position so that the phosphors have a chance to resettle. I know some people don't believe this, but better safe than sorry.

I'm getting my 111FD tomorrow and was wondering about letting it sit for a couple of hours. These delivery guys from BB will hopefully have it upright when they bring it over in their truck [no point in asking them since they might just lie] but I did wanna ask if anyone knew if thats how most warehouses store them... as in upright. If thats the case then I wouldnt wait for a few hours to turn it on lol!

If you live in Central Florida (I live in Lake County). I may be able to help you out, pay for the gas. We could then go pick the TV up in our truck.

I brought a 32 inch tube TV home in a Tercel. It had the packaging and barely fit.

Recently I bought a 58 inch plasma and had wondered whether it would fit.

The store delivered. It was UNBELIEVABLE how much bigger the box was than the TV inside.

Possibly the TV would have fit on its own but I am not sure.

I'd say to buy a friend a case of beer and borrow his minivan. Keep it in the case.

They are supposed to be stored upright and shipped upright. You can ship them for short distances on their back, but no electronics shop should do so.

Besides, usually by the time you have the television inside, out of the box, and connected to everything in your system it's been long enough that the set should be fine anyway.

Not to mention that your SO will make you clean up the box before they let you turn it on
