Default Panasonic UJ-210 for laptop

I plan to buy this and fit it to my Pavilion zd7377EA and my future Pavilion HDX (from HD DVD/DVD)?
Will this work properly?
I am still confused on 12.7 mm and 9.5mm. Somebody tell me?
What is the connection on most laptops (that panasonic has ATA)
I might get it from ebay, but if any of you know better link of shop in UK, tell me.
Any problem might arise if I do this?

I Suppose if HD DVD's work, then this will work as well. I'm not sure why, but people tell me that you should get the UJ 220 over the UJ 210.

right.... thanks for the info. I know that UJ-110 is BD reader, while UJ-210 is BD writer. I'll check out UJ-220
Things getting better for me after knowing the existance of Panasonic's BD drive, I think.

I found UJ-225 in UK site, but it said "SOON".

Anyway, thanks

I have the 210S here in this laptop, it works fine.
Sony updated it to 1.05 firmware and it runs pretty good actually.

actually if you can get the 225 for a good price get that one. I believe the 225 can write at twice the speed then the 210. But in the end I suppose if all you wanna do is watch blu ray's on your laptop all of them are good.

210 ....still not good. Now I really want UJ-225.....
It can write BD-DL, while 210 can't.
I'll wait for a while until that 225 is for sale
thanks

I know that, but if I can just see what it shaped like, it would be helpful. I tried to google 9.5 optical drive and can't find one. Is it the same as 12.7, only it's thinner?

I said that it can't write BD-RE DL ---> Blu-ray rewritable Double Layer.
I saw it on Dell's website. It did mention DL in 220, but not 210.

OK. I believe you.....
It just did not said on Dell's website. I don't care about reading or writing speed. What I care is that it can write DL.
Thanks

Default Info on UJ-210 is inaccurate

Hi,

The info on the UJ-210 by Dell is inaccurate.

The UJ-210 CAN write to BD-RE DL 50GB just fine. My dvdinfopro program latest version also shows this capapability. Panasonic sent me samples of all four media types and I have successfully tested all four, BD-R and BD-RE 25GB and 50GB and can report the drive works fine with all of them.

I have checked this with a drive which has 1.00 firmware and one with V1.01 firmware both of which write to all types fine.

cheers
Nic W

Hi!

that is what I am thinking, but the specs on Panasonic website also did not said that. thanks to you and dadkins for re-assuring me. I plan to buy it October 2007 to replace the included HD DVD in HP laptop. I HATE HD DVD

and WELCOME!!

The UJ-210 and UJ-215 have the following specs:

EIDE interface
8MB cache

Write Speeds:
BD-R/RE (25GB/50GB): 1x/1x
DVD+/-R (SL/DL): 8x/2.4x
DVD+/-RW: 4x
DVD-RAM: 5x
CD (R/RW): 8x/8x

Read Speeds:
BD-ROM: 1.6x
DVD-ROM: 8x
CD-ROM: 24x

They do support dual layered media (with the right firmware).

The specs on the newer UJ-225 are:

EIDE interface (internal) / USB 2.0 (external)
8MB cache

Write Speeds:
BD-R/RE (25GB/50GB): 2x/2x
DVD+/-R (SL/DL): 8x/2.4x
DVD+/-RW: 4x
DVD-RAM: 5x
CD (R/RW): 8x/8x

Read Speeds:
BD-ROM: 1.6x
DVD-ROM: 8x
CD-ROM: 24x

I ripped those specs from this page on my blog. The original source was Panasonic Japan (sorry I didn't save the link).
