Despite everything inside of me screaming to not do it, I'll likely be buying the s550 player. Hopefully I won't be joining this well thought out class action suit anytime soon (which, of course, any class action based upon VARIOUS products would fail for lack of commonality ---- I'M JUST SAYING!)

I'm looking at picking up the BDV-E500W, I don't have that big of a room (it's not a dedicated theater room) and I think this will fill the bill nicely as an upgrade to my BDP-S1 (which will be relegated to the Master Bedroom).

my sony s300 has reached the curb for trash pickup a few weeks ago after working flawless for 15 months. SIGH
just stopped playing blu-ray discs.
and after that and a samsung 1200 i all most gave up on blu-ray players until my Panasonic bp35 which kicks ass.
thank goodness as i really would have missed watching blu-ray movies. but never once thought about sueing thou.

All you need to do is buy the extended warrenty and when your not home Sony will sneak into your home and replace the model that will break in 90 days to a model that will never break since you have the warrenty.

Man, I must admit my S300 is SLOW on the boot up. But it is a 1st gen player.....

Other than that it works and plays great. I don't think I would ever consider sueing Sony over that one....

That's not necessarily true. Consumer class action members often receive an award, though it may only be enough to cover what you spent on the item originally. The class action representatives -- like the OP -- stand to gain more because they are the ones driving the action.

Obviously, the attorneys stand to gain the most. I've litigated a class action suit against a major electronics manufacturer -- the fees you can run through are both astronomical and unfortunate.

Was it the movie Mr. Mom where the TV Repair man came out to fix the TV and came back to the owner saying I think I found the problem.... The owner's shoe left in the TV where he kicked it in? .. Perhaps the op beats his equipment in a fit of frustration if he has to do a firmware update or something.

Also reminds me of someone I know that has issues with DVDs not working all the time but then again he stacks them on top of each other on shelfs (out of the cases) or leaves them laying on the floor (out of the cases) all the time and then wonders why he has so many issues.

Perhaps it is how you treat your equipment.

I have to say that for some people, technology keeps breaking. I cannot say if it is them or the environment they exist in (Dirt, Static, Pet hair) that causes the problems. I have to fix the interface between the chair and the keyboard quite often at work due to similar problems. No mater how many computers I replace on their desk, the new one never seems to work for them. Maybe some people were meant to have a VCR.

As a snow-sport instructor, I tell some people they should Ski, some should Snowboard and some should stick to snow tubing.

It is actually second generation. I think the S1 was the first Sony stand alone.

Other than that, I am leaving this thread before the aluminum hats need to be passed out.

im just gonna throw this out there

if it says 360 on the front, then of course its the manufacturers fault for break downs

but sony on the other hand, gotta be the consumers

Sorry, but Sony has nowhere near the product defect rate on any player that Microsoft has with the 360. It's not even close.

However, I have no doubt there may be issues with the 300, given it was Sony's first affordable player. Pretty much all the manufacturers had kinks to work out in their first players.

There are a lot of individuals that run through players and components like crazy though. I don't know if they static shock their components all day for giggles or don't own vacuum cleaners, but they have consistently high failure rates.

Since the OP hasn't shown himself since that first loaded post, it was probably an ambulance chaser trying to drum up enough people for a class action suit. There will probably be similar fishing posts found at AVS and other forums as well.

4 sure lol, i was just making a point, all be it a poor one with the easiest example to come to mind, i agree the 300 may have not been sony's best end all be all player, but i can tell you the fault of mine breaking down does not fall on me, unless using it is considered abuse. And the OP was obviously just trolling, which i didn't notice when i saw the name of the thread, and in no way am i trying to sue lol, but after my player junked out, i obviously did some serious surfing on the subject and while it may not be a HUGE percentage, it seems many have had the unable to play disc problem with this unit! My real problem is when you dump $400 on a movie player, it should not require an expensive extended warranty just because it wasn't built for durability and usage, and JUST because your unit has not broke down does not mean that there were not some cuts in the process to reduce cost.
