And for all you Sunday Ticket junkies. The NFL and DirecTv have extended their contract from 2010 till 2014. Contract was around 4 billion. So Sunday Ticket will not be going to another provider like its been rumored.

I agree with this. If you can get Fios in your area you should give it a try. Unfortunately, it's not available in my area either, but would love to have it here since I'm sure (hope) Verizon will be able to offer the broadband internet and phone service with the HD TV service as a package deal.
I have DirectTV HD, and their all HD claim is a load of crap. DirectTV is really more of the same, although both beat Comcast HD in terms of picture quality in my area. I'd suggest checking out FiOS if it's available where you are. It's in another league in terms of picture quality and features.

I'm shopping around for a new provider, because I'm about to drop Dish Network. They're not carrying my local ABC affiliate, so I'm not going to carry them.

Yeah, you're about 40 miles south of where I am. You and I are considered to be in the "Salinas/Monterey" market if I'm not mistaken.

I think you're officially the first person I've "met" here that is in the same general area as I. There are a few other NorCal people, but with unspecified cities.

FiOS and cable companies become really expensive when you want like multiple DVRs HDDVR's ext. I have 3 HDDVR's 1HD and 1SD box. Lets take a look at what Cable/ FiOS would charge. Cable and FiOS are pretty similar in my area. I have Premier on DTV so Cable/Fios charge 115.00 for that similar package. Now they charge 20 bucks per HD DVR. Thats and additonal 60 and now an additional 15 for a HD box. Thats 75 bucks extra when i pay DTV just 20 extra for my recievers. The package is 5 bucks cheaper on DTV. My total bill on DTV is like 145 while a cable bill would be somewhere around 190 plus State tax city tax and all these stupid taxes i dont get on Satellite. That bill would be at around 210. I only pay like a .80 sales tax on DTV here in California. It would cost me about 800 bucks more a year to get what i have now. NO THANX

Default No Directv!!

I had Directv for 3 years and recently dumped them because they wanted to charge me a monthly fee to come out and adjust my dish or I had to pay a one time fee. I live on a corner house and the wind always knocked my dish around so I'd constantly lose signal. Now IMO if I was paying you to provide a service to me, I'd expect you to come fix a problem and not charge me for it.

I have AT&T U-verse now which is fiber optic just like Verizon's Fios and the picture is great, but they've been out to fix it 3 times in 4 months. Come to find out that I had a nick in the cable outside and water got in there. They replaced the cable and had my service back up and running FOR FREE!

Both Dish and DirecTv will charge for service calls unless you have the protection plan with them. The reason they charge is because their installers are subcontracted and need to get paid some how. Just because they were charging you for something doesnt make them a bad company. Its ot their fault you live where you live and if thats the case you should have added the protection plan.

I'm already paying directv and its not my fault "an act of God" caused me to lose signal. Granted, it isn't their fault either but they are providing the service so they should pay to fix it as I am paying them.

Sorry to be such a snob about it, but that's just my opinion and its a sore spot at the moment.

DirecTv also has MTVHD. They also have Palladia and MTVHD. A lot of people get confused. Those are two seperate channels. They also have NickHD

I don't remember being told that when I signed up, but then again that was a few years ago and it cost them a customer and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Ah well.

agreed. in fact, i asked them would T-storms affect my service, and the lady on the phone (after consulting someone) responded "no sir, it won't be a problem". of course, it was a problem. i left them, but not before their billing and marketing department thru every obstacle in my way. i still get 12 bills/emails/flyers per month, despite 3 written requests to stop.

I'm very interested in this Verizon fios... I just checked the website and latest news is way back from either 2006 or 2007, what's up with that? Only 16 states have it. NC is not one of them. Everyone is moving here we should have it.... Why does it take so long to get good technology. I think time warner, embarq and sudden link have a lock on NC.

Spike is not in HD yet... and it sucks. I'm going to drop them... I don't like I want some of this fiberoptic service. Hell I live in Wilmington NC the first city to go digital in the USA.

Come on over to DirecTV. "We" have SpikeHD and it's awesome, especially when they play Star Wars and such.

Same here. It was pretty awesome. I recently took them off my DVR to free up some space, but I had a couple of them on there for a while.
