I've had both over the years and I'd say that Direct TV is the better of the two but If I had my choice I'd go for Verizon Fios TV over fiber network....I hear that nothing comes close to picture quality. Unfortunately it's only in major market areas served by Verizon at this time.

I've had Dish for almost 10 years now. I'm waiting to see what these satellite companies do when we convert permanently over to digital over-the-air in June. I may consider a switch to Direct TV, but I'm looking for the best HD deal I can get.

best price is gonna be dish network, they had promotion $9,99 for their basic hd channel for 6 months, direct tv basic hd is crap. you has to more to get some decent channel, dish network has more better hd channel in lower price, but if you got money, of course dish network is better since it has more choice.

Well it goes both ways. DirecTv has channels that Dish does not while Dish has channels DirecTv doesn't. For example some channels DirecTv has is Spike, Comedy Central, FX, Speed. And most of the regional sport networks. While Dish has like Lifetime and Lifetime movie network, Travel channel. I know there's more but can't think of any others.

Spike is not in HD yet... and it sucks. I'm going to drop them... I don't like I want some of this fiberoptic service. Hell I live in Wilmington NC the first city to go digital in the USA.

And for all you Sunday Ticket junkies. The NFL and DirecTv have extended their contract from 2010 till 2014. Contract was around 4 billion. So Sunday Ticket will not be going to another provider like its been rumored.

I'm very interested in this Verizon fios... I just checked the website and latest news is way back from either 2006 or 2007, what's up with that? Only 16 states have it. NC is not one of them. Everyone is moving here we should have it.... Why does it take so long to get good technology. I think time warner, embarq and sudden link have a lock on NC.
