Default Dish and direct

Will they bring true 1080? I have time warner and my pq is absolutely terrible even with hd channels. I also have a coax leak somewhere, and I rent so I am not about to tear things apart to track it down.

When I move I am thinking about only keeping road runner and then get dish

any input?

Are you expecting the same quality as blu-ray? If so, you will be disappointed.

"True 1080"? If you mean 1080p, then only in PPV movies. HD channels are 1080i, and most are very good...some channels seem to compress more than others, but from what I've experienced, that's the individual channel, and not Dish...so it's the same regardless of the transport (Dish, DirecTV, HD cable - would all be the same). However, as Mr. Roy said, none of it is Blu quality.

I have Dish and am perfectly happy with it. Their service is equal to that of DirecTV for less money, and their equipment is typically rated much better.

On the flip side do you like the NFL? If you do Directv is the way to go just based on sunday ticket. I am a football fanatic and it is awesome. I don't even have to mention my team is the sorry ass raiders and the only way I can see them get their ass handed to them each week is via sunday ticket. I have the premium package and get all the channels and have been very happy. The only thing that bothers me is if I watch a game on abc or espn they look like crap compared to sunday ticket, fox, cbs and even tnt for basketball. I guess abc and espn are just really compressed.

If you have a leak of some kind, that's most likely the problem. I have TWC and the HD channels looks great. Some better than other, obviously. Like TNT is just so, so. You can tell it's really processed, but local programs look outstanding.

Here's some input for you:

I still love my DirecTV after nearly 2 years. They continue to upgrade the HD DVR software to add new features. I'm very satisfied and pq is great!

For PQ, maybe this helps:

OTA > FIOS > UVerse > Satellite > Cable

The "FIOS > UVerse" i have read. The others I can attest to. This is all due to compression and bandwidth. From what I have read, FIOS doesn't compress, so that will be the best out of the "broadband TV" options.

The closest I have ever gotten to blu-ray quality, is on CSI: Miami using my OTA antenna. The picture is so clear and sharp...

I've had DirecTV in the past and now I have Dish Network. As noted earlier I am much happier with the equipment from Dish Network. I don't care about football, so I won't even be considering making the move back to DirecTV. IMO the HD quality of Dish is quite good, but does vary by channel.

I have DirecTV and am satisfied. It would be nice to have more channels in HD. Also, 1080p is a rare thing on sat/cable simply because of how much bandwidth it takes. And as people have said it still won't be Blu-Ray quality as both Dish and DirecTV compress the signal using MPEG2.

I have Directv and it's excellent.
My Time Warner Cable reception was atrocious, especially HD. Roadrunner was even worse for me. I live in relatively new construction. These are the reasons I switched.
U-verse is not less compressed than Directv or Dish. I have two friends with U-verse and my picture quality is superior. Hopefully this will change as well as the limitation of only one HD stream in a household because it's an excellent service option compared to cable for those who can't have a dish.
Directv's hardware has been excellent for me, the constant upgrades to service and firmware are amazing compared to cable (which basically has none).

I would think you couldn't go wrong with Dish or Directv. If you want the Sunday ticket definitely get Directv, otherwise choose the best deal.

We had DirecTV at first because my wife used to work there but we still kept it after she left becuase we really liked it. My parents had Dish Network and had nothing but problems so they switched to DTV and have been happy with it. We canceled our satellite months ago because I stream Hulu through our Xbox 360 and of course it has Netflix streaming. There's not much on TV that I like to watch anymore and what we did watch is on Hulu or Netflix so we save $90 a month and still get the shows we want.

I have always thought of DirecTv as more for the sport oriented, and Dish for the non-sports oriented viewer........
