It's kind of seemed to me like the Unreal Engine can make stuff look amazing if the designers are clever enough to mask the imperfections by just adding tons of little details. I don't mean details like realistic touches, but just 'stuff' all over an object. Like the character models in Unreal Tournament or Gears. They look good, but there's just so much stuff distracting from the flaws. All the little lights and shields and everything.
Where as for example in Uncharted, Nate looks way cleaner and crisper with just a T-shirt and jeans. |

Biggest reason I don't like games made with the unreal engine. It's 90-100% garunteed that there will be texture pop in. That's one of my concerns I noticed in even the cryengine demo... Many people said it's just because it's a demo, but if UE3 was allowed to do it I don't see why the crytek crew wouldn't think they could get away with it. SoOOOOO annoying. |

Question, if the canvas is made from a mixture of poo and grass and rolled really thin doesn't the masterpiece inherently stink? |

Unreal Engine 3 still has a lot of juice left in it, but the developer's talent plays a large role in the finished product. Gears of War 2, Unreal Tournament III, and Bioshock on PS3 clearly illustrate this.
Still though, bigger and better engines like CryEngine and Unreal Engine 4 need to come out soon. It will take developers a while to become accustomed to the new tool sets. It would be great if proprietary engines like those developed by Guerilla Games, Naughty Dog, and Insomniac were more widely available to PS3 developers. |

UE 3 seems to better for dark gritty stuff, CE 3 better for day time stuff like, both have it's pros and cons. It's really comes down to which engine is better for which game. I don't see how CE3 would be used to make a Batman game...you get the idea.
